Hi everyone.

We have a road trip to Monaco end of June.. but have been invited to visit friends at the base of Mont Blanc during the middle of the trip.

Has anyone taken their car via this route ?

Could anyone suggest hotels en route and any other advise please ?

Also ..the best driving roads etc ?

Thank you for taking the time out to reply.

You are gonna want to drive the route des grandes alpes from Mon Blanc to Monaco
Load up the google map Alpine Bikkers Map reference in the Roads Wiki ... your road becomes clear

We did Routes Des Grand Alpes in 2004 and 2008, was lovely but leave yourself plenty of time as your average speed will be very poor. It's also difficult because of local roadworks and unexpected events such as landslides can close entire sections without much warning, leaving you with lengthy detours

Col du Turini is also worth doing and is on the route, but the road surface when I went last time was really poor

Last year the missus and I came home from Monaco via Monc Blanc. We went through the tunnel though as I had never been through. It isn't exciting but it is damn expensive.

Just asked the missus the name of the hotel we stayed in Chamonix.... nope she can't remember but it was £130 a night and damn comfy.

As for the drive, we were heading home so it was toll roads for us. Head to Dijon as fast as possible and then go looking for fun is all I can recommend.
