Hi Guys. Went to take the roof of my Tuscan and the pin on the drivers side would not retract fully when the handle in the boot was up. Managed to get the roof off, assumed it was just stuck but after lots of WD=40 and lots of manipulation it still will not retract fully although pin does move freely when the boot handle is raised and lowered.
Now left unable to get the roof back on properly. Certainly wouldn't drive it like that so guessing it's a weekend of top down fun for me (it's a hard life isn't it biggrin ).
Anyone got any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else's Tuscan?

Hi MC12, Rens is right, it can be shortened in the boot, easy 10 minute job. I had the same thing on mine.

The handles are hidden behind carpeted plates, but if you peel back the carpets there is a hole in the plate. There you will see the adjuster. Rotate the locking tab up and withdraw the small hinge pin. You can then loosen the locking nut and rotate the fork to shorten the cable. Reverse the procedure to put it all back together again (replacing the pin is fiddly).

This all probably sounds like gobbledegook, but have a look at it will all become abundantly clear

Agreed, but if like mine was, the authors set up adjustment is not enough then a solution is to drill another pivot point hole in the dog leg to reduce the cable travel.

Good luck

Make sure that the actual bracket for the roof release handle is still attached to the inside of the boot. Mine just came off and then I could do nothing to move the pin back in....I think I'm going to have to bolt it through rather than keep fibre glassing it back in. rolleyes

What a coincidence... Happened to me on Saturday...!

Sounds like a simple fix, will report back as soon as I find some time to look into it...

Seems like a good time to resurrect this thread frown

My passenger side has always been a bit awkward to get the roof on, and the handle often would fall down of it's own accord whilst I was in the middle of putting the roof on. Today the pin won't retract far enough back. So.. how difficult is it to replace the cable entirely? And can someone elaborate on how to adjust it in the interim.. i've dug out a pic from another very old thread but can't see (as in I physically couldn't see) which clevis pin you can remove so that the threaded section that goes through the plate can be rotated?

Hoping my mortgage comes through so i can move into the new place with a bigger garage as I don't mind working on little bits like this, except there's only so long I could lie in the boot whilst trying to figure it out! wobble

I did this a while ago...

It's quite straightforward just the pin spring thing is awkward but easy enough.

If this doesn't make sense you can pm me and I'll talk you through it either on email or phone smile
