A good place to volunteer for cooking, post photographs and share recipes.

I'll volunteer to make Saturday evening's starter: feta cheese and Box Hill nettle filo pie, with a Mediterranean herb tomato relish. Denbies 'Juniper Hill' as the accompanying wine.

I'll also provide the cheese course (Welsh if possible from Carmarthen Market).

Any volunteers for the main / dessert?

Well, Cotty and I are up for a monster curry. hehe

(But someone will have to cook an alternative meal for the curry-haters)

I can make elements of this which won't be hot at all (all from scratch - no bought sauces in my house, thank-you wink):

- Cucumber raita
- Dhal
- Bombay potatoes

Chilli lovers can add their own at the table.

I won't be there for the 1st Sunday, I'm not arriving until late on Tuesday evening. I was thinking of a rib of beef for the Friday, and we're all departing on the Saturday, so there isn't a 2nd Sunday.

I'm not big on veg or salad, so I'll take your assistance with the accompaniments to the roast wink

when ever:

Cheesy salmon soup would make a good lunch / evening starter.

We are only there for Saturday to Monday (circa 13:30 we need to leave for the 14:05 train)

They'll be plenty of ingredients knocking around for alternative meals to be sorted if people have dislikes/allergies etc.
I'm happy doing breakfasts as I usually have a cooked breakfast every day, and am used to cooking these meals for myself. They'll be a reasonable choice depending on planned meals during the day. If someone is doing a hefty lunch, then a light breakfast is the most suitable. If we're skipping lunch ( ie full day out sightseeing) then full English will be on the menu.

Sunday Breakfast Menu ( as already mentioned I can't bring meat/fish that needs to be chilled on the journey Saturday, and the long drive will knacker me so I'm expecting to shop locally Sunday/Monday)

Choice of cereals, orange juice, limited(bananas/apple)supply of fresh fruit.
Anything to do with eggs wink boiled, poached, omelette, scrambled etc. your choice smile
Salmon fishcakes
Plenty of toast with marmalade, or marmite.
Plenty of tea and coffee.

I would expect that the weekend would have a Sunday lunch and dinner so my breakfast menu for that day needs to be on the light side.

We've got 8 large boerewors (South African sausages) and will pick up some steaks.

Also planning making a salad and baked spuds to go with them.

Does anyone not like red meat? I can pick up some chicken too...

apparently you are all getting to taste homemade finnish doughnuts (made freshly when we get there) and we have a couple of bottles of homemade finnish lemonade that has been brewing in the fridge for a week coming down. (its a weird colour and im not convinced but tastes of lemonade so it passes).

I have been warned that the finnish soup is more of a supper/lunch (whole meal) than just a starter... just so you are warned.

Blimey. I think the weekend is going to be a culinary eye-opener for me. I must confess to have got into a bit of rut of late. smile

Likewise. I eat breakfast and a big lunch at work and snack in the evening. I have not posted anything on the dinner photo thread for ages. Be good to get the tools out and cook something good.

I'll be bringing lots of cookbooks to provide inspiration.

My favourite at the moment is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's 'Everyday'. Lots of ideas for inexpensive but interesting meals.

But your photos are legendary. Anyone who can eat a whole chicken and a tonne of veg and yet still be a svelte as you are beggars belief. Honestly, when I met you I was expecting you to be enormous (err, let me rephrase that). Ha ha.
