Popped into goodwood this morning to see if anything was running and was greeted by red flags and a eerily quite circuit with a few cars sat in pitlane, i then caught sight of the flatbed reco truck with what looked liked a chared and mangled e-type on the back!!! any body know what happened and if the driver is ok?(hope so). I have not seen that sight there for a long time and then unfortunatley it involved a lotus sunbeam iirc and it was fatal.

Was down there this morning. We were watching the cars (jaguar track day) from the bank on the inside of the track. Heard a bang, then a screech of tyres then shortly afterwards a REALLY big bang. No one was sure how bad it was at first because it was on the Lavant straight so you couldnt see behind the aircraft hangers, but then there was a huge amount of black smoke and all the fire trucks went over. Turns out the car ended up in a tyre wall, destoying the front, and then the back was destroyed by the fire.

I think the driver had already been rescued by two chaps in a Caterham before the fire trucks got there. He was taken off in an ambulance - presumably to st richards. I've been trying to find out whether he's ok.

I was flying about 30 miles south east of Goodwood and heard from air traffic control that Goodwood airspace was closed due to an incident on the circuit. Light aircraft that were due to land there were diverted to Shoreham.

Hope the fellow is ok.

It was my partners uncle who was driving. Apparently there was debris on the track which blew one of his tyres. After he hit the wall the car caught fire and no one knows how he got out.

He is awaiting an operation in hospital with a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a severed finger.
He's not compus due to sedatives but the outlook is getting better.

Wow, really hope he's OK.

I think we all get a bit blasé about trackdays these days, but remember kids, motorsport is dangerous.

Wish him all the best.

Lavant is the fastest part of the circuit so any offs there tend to be big ones.

I work at goodwood so was about when it happened although i didn't see anything. Good luck to the guy recovering. There is a hole in the track today from where the car was on fire...
