Was just reading the thread about a notchy change and figured its about time I changed the oil int eh gear box to see if this improves matters. Is Castrol Dexron III the product of choice.

So i can buy it on the way home, does anyone how much I need.

Is it straightforward, is there a gearbox drain plug ?

thanks

I've been thinking the same, you realy need to get yourself the tvr bible by steve heath, it has detailed information about everything.

Looking at the gearbox section states you need a turkey baister and a length of tube to suck the old oil out as the plug is on the side not top or bottom.

both the T5 and SD1 take 2.5 ltrs, T5 you want Mobil ATF 220, SD1 SS80/Castrol TQF/Castrol SMX1.

Suggests a paperclip bent at 90 degrees to check the level.

In other words a pain in the arse as you need it level to get correct ammount but need it on stands to get underneath! lol.

Have fun.

hi,

Castrol dexIII in my t5. 2.5 litres.
Most motors factors and halfrauds sell a "draper oil suction gun" (app.£10)

Belchy.

ok - so as recommended by the bible i'm looking for some smx-s for my sd1 gearbox and i find these 2 auctions on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CASTROL-SMX-S-1-Ltr-/2803755...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Castrol-Oil-Synthetic-Transm...

there is a massive price difference and a different label shown, but are they the same product ?
