Hiya

Hope this is in the right place

I have lurked for a while but spotted something yesterday worthy of posting.

No decals or identifying badges
The Driver of the truck would not tell me anything other that it was going to be crash tested in the next few days.

It all looked very nice with a carbon fibre floor and nicely machined alloy bits.

Any ideas?

That looks like a Smart to me?

ETA wasn't Gordon Murray doing something like this?

Didn't someone in the UK buy the rights to the smart roadster with a view to re-developing it and re-launching it.

I'm going back about 3 years ago now.

Some sort of new version of this, maybe?

The truck's company has a link to their website on it:

It's too special for a SMART.

I assume it's a Brit special about to be launched by someone with a spare shed somewhere in Gloucestershire or the like, will be powered by a yank V8 or a VW TFSI and the company will fold before deliveries begin.

It looks quite nice though so hopefully not - check out that camber at the rear.

Couple of points - I hope that dash is going to be wrapped in something and I wouldn't want the 'left foot amputation bracket' that holds the dash up specced on mine.

Maybe the van reg gives it away....

No It doesn't

All the inages on google for project kimber look exactly like a smart with perhaps a gril at the front.

This was wider that than a Smart and had a 4 cylinder engine.
Smart has 3 iirc.

It's one of these - rear lights/side 'blades' are the same - it's just missing the deep rear shell section!

Definately a Mastretta MXT.

I ws told that there was a test car arriving soon for it's EU type approval.

I have spoken to the importer recently who said that the first step was seat belt anchorages, seat mountings, hinges and door catches then crash testing.

Ther is a planned race car being dubbed the MXR I was given a scetch a few months back.

I will try to find, scan and post it.

I have a deposit on one of these already cloud9

Seems like a very genuine, nice bloke.

There are still a lot of final details to iron out in terms of spec and pricing, but he has some clear thoughts on where it should be to be competitive.

He doesn't want it to be seen as a competitor to Lotus as he sees it as being far less " Hard Core" than an Elise/Exige with more toys etc as standard.
eg. even the car to be tested and impacted has A/C as will all cars.

It is a whole lot easier to enter and exit than a Lotus, too.

They are hoping for less that 900kgs and 250(ish) ps from a Turbo charged Ford engine.

Launch will be dependant on how quickly the car can pass complete EU Approval.
