Need a new BBQ urgently!
Discussion
Just been suggested (read as told) that I host my Dads birthday BBQ on Thursday so I need to grab something tomorrow in order that I can get it built in time!
My 10 year old gas BBQ has been left out over the winter and is now heading for the skip. Anyone suggest a medium sized gas powered BBQ for a couple of hundred quid? Want something that will be okay outside and last a while.
Forget suggesting charcoal, I have two commercial size charcoal BBQs but this is for personal use and convenience is priority.
Cheers!

I barbecue all the time at the moment, despite often getting home at 8. I wouldn't dream of using anything other than charcoal.

B&Q do a three burner with griddle, grill, warming rack, side-ring-burner and a lid for about £200. I've had three years so far which is longer than my expensive Outback/Sunshine BBQs did in the past. Very happy with it - in conjunction with my charcoal jobbies for when I fancy lighting a fire.My 10 year old gas BBQ has been left out over the winter and is now heading for the skip. There's enough cooking room for a fair sized party.
You should be able to get one today and have it set up and the newness burned off by this evening.

Gave in. Weber 57cm in the back of the car. All the gas ones I looked at didn't even have trays for coals or anything so basically you are cooking on a gas flame which I can do in the kitchen.
Cheers all
Arn't you supposed to buy lava rocks for them Cheers all
I just bought one of these Weber's from B&Q, they were doing 15% off the other weekend. Treated myself to a Rapidfire Chimney Starter - Fk me, amaaaazing - the best £20 spent all year! Seriously, just put 2 or 3 firelighters under the chimney and leave for 20 mins, then pour onto the charcoal grate on the BBQ
No more ping about with 30 zillion firelighters, umpteen bottles of lighter fluid and the Sunday Sport

Wimp. I can get a BBQ lit with 1 or 2 firelightersProblem is they are too small, expensive and burn out too fast!
I'll second the Chimney starter. where it really comes in handy is when you need to add lit coals part-way through the cooking process, for example last weekend i did an 8kg rack of beef ribs (jacobs ladder)which took 8 hrs would have struggled without the chimney starter to add coals when the temp dropped off.
Then when the slow cooking was finished i was imediately able to start fast cooking stuff on super hot coals to be ready at the same time as the beef (after it had rested). The chimney starter makes this kind of thing very easy and convenient- not to mention speeding up the BBQing process

Ive just been out and bought a oil drum style charcoal bbq, just a cheap one but it will do for now.
Do you just use any charcoal such as the bags they sell at petrol stations? And what is the best way to get them lit?
Really looking forward to using it!

I just use 1 bit of newspaper (broadsheet), torn into 2 bits, and douced in cheap cooking oil - veg, sunflower, whatever.. Does the trick, and smells better than the chemical fumes that firelighters produce.
The Webber lighters are pretty good in not adding any unwanted flavour into the coals Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
