Hi, we're off to Bruges and Ypres for the weekend and would really appreciate any restaurant recommendations. Nothing too expensive but good honest food without tourist tax or traps!

thanks guys.

ypres we found quite thin on the ground- lots of little friendly Cafe's thought- just look for once that looks ok- they all see to like Brits though.

Bruges- hmm very very many different choices- are you looking for michelin star, or just something a bit more normal?

Avoid the places on the main square- expensive and not particularly good ime- and you are certianly packed in.

There are a few places i know, but i just can't think of the names!

Oostend has some interesting fish shops- you just have to get over the fact that it feels like a ferry port.

Stay away from the main square in Bruges then (or any of the restaurants within about 1/4 mile.)

ISTR had a very good meal in a place called the Park Restaurant which was slightly off the beaten track. fixed price menu inc. wine & very good.

Indeed here it be smilehttp://www.parkrestaurant.be/index_en.htm

i disagree about avoiding the main square, there is one facing the clock tower on the right looking from clock tower which does a fantastic game pie. there is also a really good greek restuarant on the left hand side of the clock tower (looking towards the tower) near to a little toy shop and a underwear shop if i remember correctly. be aware of cost though as bruges and indeed belgium was, i thought, quite pricey. if you have time although guessing you wont take a look at ghent, very pretty place.

and have a good time

Do I have to do everything around here???

It's Bruges, man! Have a quick meal then make for the nearest dingy cave and get stuck into the 3,000 different beers!
