OK, as some of you may know, I have a modest collection of mainly 'modern type' watches.
My grandmother has passed away, and is leaving me some money in her will. Obviously I would like to use this money in a way to cherish her memory - so I was thinking a nice antique / old watch.

So, for £5k, what am I looking at? Are inexpensive watch auctions around more frequently than they are talked about in QP? Are there any nice things out there for that kind of money? You will get more internet points for something from my birth year ('76).

Or should I get another Ltd Bell & Ross?

Omega Ploprof? cool (The original, not the re-release.)

I have an Omega in the collection (a look-after for my son - inherited), and I just don't 'get' them.

I want something more substantial in the flesh... Like a Navitimer or Monacco from that period. Maybe a modern watch - something very rare, or even a new Mont Blanc...

Won't get much more substantial than a Ploprof. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (again, original)? Only 38mm case, though, due to age.

Would be well under £5k but I would be looking at either a vintage Heuer Carrera (check out http://www.heuerboy.com/ and http://www.onthedash.com/ for inspiration) or a vintage JLC Reverso Duo.

Both absolute classics that will stand the test of time.

I prefer the sixties Carreras but those from the 70s do have a certain charm.
