Hi All,

I havent been in this part of the forum before but my dear lady and I are in the process of buying a 230SL. Bought her last night, but changing plates etc so could be a short while before we pick her up.

Is there a merc meet or something similar for the 60's sl's in the south region? Would be great to meet some cars and their owners...

I'm a TVR man and have been for a while so its a bit strange moving from one forum to another!!

Hi and welcome to Mercedes ownership.

I'm at the opposite end of the country so can't instantly comment on what's happening down your way. But a recommended starting point is to pay a little bit more money and join the Mercedes Benz Club. There will be some various stuff in the forums there - including details of events that are happening down your way. They are also listed in the quarterly magazines you get through the door.

Hi, I also changed from a TVR to a Mercedes, a 1992 500SL in my case, different to the TVR but enourmously enjoyable in its own way. In my opininion it is a very tough call to equal or better the TVR forums and meets but I will give the Mercedes owners club a whirl and might just change my mind.

I heartily recommend the Mercedes-Benz Club. http://www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk

The annual subscription is £30. For this you get a monthly, full colour, professional standard magazine covering a wide range of interesting stuff (from C63 AMGs to pre-war Mercs), they run super events, the forum is good (it is not brilliant but it is good), you get some discounts that you could probably negotiate for yourself and, perhaps best of all, you get the quarterly Mercedes-Benz Classic magazine absolutely free of charge (this is a really excellent publication that is not widely available in the UK).

Club members have been unfailingly helpful to me. There is a real mixed bag of people, common to posh, poor to rich, classics to new cars, motorsport to touring, but they all have a common interest in Mercedes. I have been to a couple of events and they have been a great pleasure.

Other good websites are www.mbclub.co.uk,www.peachparts.com (there is a forum there which used to be called Mercedesshop) and www.benzworld.org (very popular forum).
