Whats the best type to go for? Charcoal or Gas?

Also any reccomendations for a decent summer bbq - something that you can cook a reasonable amount of meat in one go?

Cheers

I'd have to say charcoal for me every time.

As for what type, I've just scaled down from the large-ish one I had before that had lasted me 3 years to a medium sized Webber kettle model and it's fantastic. I was finding that the larger one was getting too hot to cool nicely on it given cooking for 4 - 8 was not covering more than 50% of it.

The Webber just seems to be ideal

The spy row between Russia and America could result in higher gas prices if Russia becomes isolated internationally, I say go for charcoal as it results in a better taste too.

Gas is more convenient, charcoal more 'fun' and some prefer the flavour.

Another vote for charcoal. And then use wood.

According to the BBC Britons are having barbecues later in life, but they are barbecuing for longer.

Infrared gas grill. Then you get a gas grill but can throw in some flavored wood chips for the charcoal taste. The best of both worlds. smile

I use a mix of decent kiln dried hardwood and regular BBQ lumpwood coal. Makes easy work of managing the temperature.

As for brands, Weber are amongst my favourites but I'm in the midst of checking out the competition and some less well known brands.

You can guarantee that the type of botter who buys a gas bbq will cut his grass with an electric lawnmower.
