I recall as a kid having a paperweight kit which comprised a bottle of resin, hardener, some moulds and a selection of crap (shells, dried flowers, glitter) to set into them. I'm about to chop a credit card into tiny pieces and send it back to Santander with a letter telling them how ste they are and thought I'd give them something to remember me by but can't find these kits anywhere. I suppose I could buy the raw materials but anything useable as a mould is unlikely to give a smooth enough finish.

Any ideas?

Could you not build a mould off a comic dog turd and use that to produce your masterpiece.

Would be very fitting.

I was looking for one of these very kits a while back.

I did find them on the internet but delivery was going to cost a small fortune because of the type of chemical it was.

In the end I found by chance in a hobby craft super store.

eta I used a cheap mug as my mould, smeared with a layer of vaseline
& the stuff can be sanded down & polished afterwords.

Spookily enough just as I was opening this page I thought about the turd idea and guess what I have in my 'Giggle Drawer' along with my Groucho Marx glasses, hand buzzer, fart cushion and remote controlled fart machine?

So I need a medium to press the turd into and use as a mould, some cling film and vaseline. Anything else?

I'm not sure 'press the turd into' and 'Vaseline' should be in the same sentence, let alone with 'cling film'.

Plasticraft!

There was also Enamelcraft.

Would the potting resin as used in electronics be any good? Don't know if it's clear.

<sniff!> Each to their own wink

Plasticraft!! That's it! Not sure about potting resin, maybe not clear enough, but I've found WaterClear acrylic and hardener on t'Bay of E for about A tenner all in.

Now. Where did I leave that turd?

Ordered this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/500g-Water-Clear-Casting-Res...

Think I'll try the turd mould before resorting to a conventional block or dome shape.

I'm open to any other amusing suggestions though.

rats rats rats.

I'm now on the point of ordering some resin and frantically lolking around my desk that would make good moulds!

I'm a sucker for this sort of thing. I shall try and resist until I get bored with the idea instead of buying it all and then getting bored. bounce

Butter or margarine tubs? I bought the mould that I used for the one above, about £3 and is re-usable. Resin and hardener was about £6. Just don't use too much catalyst! Mine suggested 1-3%. I went for the latter but in this warm weather I think that was bordering on too much as I've noticed some tiny cracks in the centre now it has set.

Still combing the house for that fake turd. Daughters have probably hidden it in my bed or something frown

Bump.

I now have all the components ready for the next one and was thinking of setting an engraved plaque into it, Something like 'Awarded To Santander For st Customer Service'. Does anyone here have access to an engraver and blanks? I know I can get it done at a locksmiths or key cutting booth but thought I'd keep it in the family.
