Nothing, and they quite often do eat them.
Actually no and it's not because they are well fed either i don't think. Sharks either go for mammals like seals or they go for fish. The ones that take fish need to group them together in a shoal and then streak through them grabbing some like a mako. A hammerhead looks for fish buried in the sand with its head so if you don't have those fish in it won't catch anything. A fish can outswim a shark so i think they don't put the sharks prey in the tanks with them and keep them well fed to also stop them getting ideas.

I think keeping the sharks well fed helps, my friend who is in no way an expert had this to say 'when sharks are full they're just like mean looking dolphins'
Not sure I believe him though.

Seattle aquarium was I think, the first to document it. I think they were baffled by the disappearing sharks and discovered the octopus were catching and eating them.

but not 'octopus' as a plural, like sheep

I don't think octopi is strictly correct either

Is it true that sharks can only breath if moving forwards?

So effectively the octopus drowned the shark?

not all sharks. Some though. I think nurse sharks can stay still off the top of my head.

I presume so as they need water to be going through their gills to extract the oxygen from it.

Isn't there something about killer whales kill sharks by putting them upside down and drowning them?

Yes but some sharks can stay still, they pump the water over their gills like fish, others rely on swimming and opening their mouths letting the water flow over that way. first way uses a lot of energy as water is hard to pump. The other causes drag.

Turning a shark upside down paralyses it, which looks to be what that octopus does then waits for it to drown.
