J4CKO said: I find that turning on Discovery and finding an unseen episode of Wheeler Dealers is one of life's small victories, an hour (minus 20 mins of adverts for accident lawyers) of real car stuff, not some ponce reviewing something you will probably never be able to afford or some tedious s te about Korean hatchbacks, they buy and fettle actual examples of cars you can afford and may actually want to own, it is Pistonheads heartland car wise and they dont buy them only to "hillariously" wreck them or let a mental Indian chap lose with a grinder on them, you get to see them issues dealt with, in a decent but not tiresome, level of detail. I can sort of see how Mike may grate a little on those with a sensitive disposition but I quite like the cockney wide boy patter, Edd is like a middle aged 19 year old car nutjob, he is a legend. I think Wheeler Dealers has come of age a bit and improved, gone from an also ran to one of the better car programmes, for anyone buying a specific model, there being an episode to cover it is a bonus, definitely worth watching. J4CKO, I cannot agree more. One of the best posts I've read in ages. My three and six year olds are now planning on getting me up at 6 to watch the discovery turbo extravaganza, start them early I say.

I've been watching lots of Wheeler Dealer episodes on Discovery Turbo recently and I really like the programme, just appreciate it for what it is and stop whinging about pantomime TV characters. Mike and Edd both come across as proper car enthusiasts and I bet they'd have some fascinating stories to tell.
I also watched some interesting follow-up programmes where they traced cars they worked on a few years ago, the poor Alfa Spider was rotting away at the sills while the BMW 6 series was positively gleaming. I think it's great they get a few more years life out of these classic cars.

I enjoy the repeats on Turbo the best. It just so happens that 1900hrs is our youngest's bedtime bottle time so I am forced to sit on the comfy sofa and give him his bottle whilst watching WD. Very nice little routine we have going!

I'm watching the Bentley one right now and it's as good as ever, a great programme. The one thing that annoys me about Mike and anyone really, is the "alright mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!" thing they do on TV to act like they know the person really well. It's just so fake and over-enthusiastic. Maybe he does know them, but it doesn't look like it.
Taking credit for Ed's work is really bad as well, all Mike does is override any sensible suggestion by Ed, such as the colour of this Bentley. A full respray just doesn't make money, I'll be amazed if they turn a profit.

I'm a fan of WD and like someone has already said, they largely choose realistic cars that an ordinary person can relate to so it appeals both to those interested in fixing cars themselves or those more likely to buy the 'restored' product. And on that note, I've always wondered if they would get more money for the cars and create more interest in the show by using the programme as a medium for selling them. Obviously this would only work for the first handful of broadcasts (or even just the first one) and may cause problems for the repeat shows (although nothing that a banner stating that the car has been sold wouldn't fix) but it would give the viewer the opportunity to buy what they're watching. It would also rid the show of the final 5-10 mins when they show (likely fake?) attempts to sell the cars and therefore can fill the gap with more detail on the work involved. And with ideas like that, that's probably why I'm not a TV director (amongst other much less obvious reasons) As for Mike and Ed, well I think they're great characters that together really make the show and I hope it stays in the current format for the forseeable.

Just watching the Dodge Charger episode on Shed. That sttering is so vague its not funny! Straight road and he is correcting left and right like his life depends on it (which it does!).
I like WD. As long as you don't get too tied up with the staged parts and the obvious financial discrepancies its a great watch. Brewer can't be like that in real life can he?
Paul is the single point of failure though. If he goes off sick when Edd wants to remove a gearbox from underneath or take off a one piece exhaust they are goosed.

I have met Mike many times, before he started appearing on the tellybox. He used to work in Independent motors in South Wimbledon, before it was knocked down and a block of flats was built there. I bought a Renault 5 GT Turbo, a Mk II Golf Gti 16v (now owned by a PHer), and a 1.9 205 GTI, from him. He was always a top fella, and loved his cars. He let me drive some cars he knew I couldn't afford and had no intention of buying. Can't fault him.

I enjoy watching it too, I do cringe at times at Ed plating up some jobs for the camera, but it's telly, so I can forgive that. And if Paul goes off sick, they'll just do it the next day, I'd guess that the timescales are one of the vaguest aspects, and wouldn't be surprised if they have more than one car on the go at a time.

Watched the Lotus Elan episode the other night.
The car looked stunning after the full respray and he turned a £5k profit!

Chrome spinners wasn't it? And what did he do to that VW camper?! Water-droplet wrap wasn't it?! Euch! WD is brilliant, consistently better than Top Gear and a fraction of the budget. It's ace watching the really early ones and comparing them the most recent - theuy have changed so much! I watched the BMW 325 touring one the other day, where Mike buys it from an auction. It looked like it was filmed on a mobile phone! -R
