If so it's quite strange as I just looked a text regarding the matter from a few months ago this morning. Anyway, the driver walked away with only scratches-the drivers door was openable. Positive breath test too apparently.
How do you achieve such a big crash at a b&q?!?

That's the problem with heavy cars that rely on power and electrotrickery for performance and handling, there's less feel, you only know you've found the edge when you fall off it and.. uh.. once you're falling there's a lot of weight behind it?
This lack of feel seems to inspire confidence confused
Sounds like its more the problem with drunk drivers, alcohol inspired confidence

Not my crash, but I have been fortunate to have none beyond 2-3mph stupidness when I had just learned. Few of my mates wrote their cars off.

Most recent crash of note, my father was coming home from a European jaunt on the M4 at about 5am. A Saab driver fell asleep at the wheel and piled into the side of him.

Funny thing was, my father was driving a Reliant Robin done up to look like Thunderbird Four. Once the coppers assessed no-one was seriously hurt, they all thought it was funny as hell (which, to be honest, it was).

Was witnessed by an off-duty copper, very clear what happened. Big speed differential too as the Robin was probably only doing about 50 and the Saab closer to 80/90.

The only pic I have:

Bits of the car and luggage were found a quarter of a mile away - the impact broke both seats and tipped the car nearly on its side. Fortunately it was very wet and greasy and I think this stopped the car gripping and rolling. If it had rolled, don't really want to think would have happened.

To be fair if I only sat in a Reliant Robin I suspect it would have more or less the same effect hehe

Seriously though, lucky to emerge from that one unscathed!!

The van was the Regal iirc. Love the Thunderbird 4 idea but just what was he coming back from?

Glad it wasn't worse. Ws it recovered by International Rescue?

At a guess, one of those banger rallies where the cars are decorated with wacky themes?

Bonefish I believe you are correct most are not Robins but rialtos or regals.

Long story short for a number of years he and a few friends did these manic trips, partly for fun partly for charity.

If you look in the pic you will see the left hand side mirror gone - it was scraped off by the road.

I also remember the first time I got in one and I swore it was going to tip straight over, they are lethal.

Yes, pretty much. Something him and some of his chums started years ago. Quite a bit of fun. We went with the three-wheelers because we wanted something of a challenge and the reality is most old cars will still cover Europe at 70mph without too much effort.

Were you in any way affiliated with an E36 decorated to look like Thunderbird 2? A couple of years ago, there was one being prepared a few doors down from my friend's house for one of these rallies

I was wondering if it could be done for the other TBs, can't find pics of that BMW, though there's another 4 (Fiat Maria based). I think a 1 or 3 replica would end up too pointy and unwieldy for the road.
Firefly on an Espace might be vaguely possible?

Nothing to do with Thunderbird 2. Some of the other Reliants included:

The obligatory Trotter-rep
A James Bond themed "Aston Robin" (complete with Casino in the bank and champagne)
Batmobile
Austin Powers' Shaguar
A Turbocharged Robin with the rear axle from an old Escort, I think
Military themed Camo-Robin

Among others I have forgotten

That picture Reminds me of a car I saw in Barcelona that got dumped by the Olympic village. I took a little while to disappear.

Here's my effort. I ran out of talent shortly before the car ran out of grip.

The car came to rest on its roof so I had to crawl out of the back window. Walked away with a couple of scratches. I was in the pub a few hours after complete with airbag sunburn.

Slight bit of negative camber on the off side rear wheel there.
