Back in 1945, the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) put on public display the German aircraft it had tested and evaluated during the war years. It was the first "Farnborough Air Show" as such - although the real Farnborough Air Show didn't start until three years later.

Most of the aircraft were scrapped in the years immediately after the display with only a handful surviving to end their lives in various museums.

The Farnborough Air Science Trust (FAST) asked the Farnborough Branch of the International Plastic Mododellers' Society (Farnborough IPMS) to build a 1/72 scale representation of as many of the aircraft displayed in 1945 as possible - in the colour schemes they wore at the time.

The models will shortly be going on display at the FAST Museum on the Farnborough Road but here's a preview of what will be on display.

I couldn't possible comment smile

Ignoring what I've built, the IPMS Farnborough chaps are excellent modellers. Every month there is a display of very good quality models on display at our regular meetings.

I've had a look through quite a lot of the photos and you're right, some excellent models there, inspiring stuff.

The Ju290 is interesting, I thought it was a Condor initially. I didn't realise there were two aircraft so alike. It's a nice looking aeroplane.
