For people of a certain age - what were the first single and LP you bought?

Single - Sailing, Rod Stewart

LP - Diamond Dogs, David Bowie

[and my first CD was So, Peter Gabriel]

Single: Love will tear us apart - Joy Division
Album: Kings of the wild frontier - Adam and the Ants

I didn't have a record player at the time, I had to borrow my brother's.

ETA: Actually, the first single I ever went and physically purchased was "Do ya think I'm sexy" by Rod Stewart because my father was too embarassed to go into the shop and ask for it himself, so he sent me, aged about 10, in to do his dirty work for him! smile

Good choices.

For me ...
Album - Paul McCartney, Pipes of Peace. Played through my dads Linn Sondek, with Stax Electrostatic headphones .... still not heard a system that sounds better than that.
Single - Paul Hardcastle. 19. Not sure if that was a good first buy or not ....

Hank Mizell?

First album was 'Getting to this' by Blodwyn Pig. I bought it second hand off a bloke in my class at school, who either didn't like it or didn't get it. I still have it!

Singles? Didn't buy them, as it was considered 'Not Cool'. Most of the bands we (well me and my mates) listened to then didn't 'do' singles.
