R170 Roof Mech issues
Discussion
Hi Guys
Wonder if you can help with a question on behalf of my parents. They have recently acquired a 2000 SLK 320 and the roof has developed an intermitent problem.
On trying to open, the boot lid raises fine but the front of the roof does not leave the screen. If given some manual assistance it works.
Anyone else come across this? Presume there is just some lube required somewhere? If so, what lube and where?
Thanks guys
Richard

If you look at the rear pillars on the car, you'll notice (on either side) a striker & lock catch. Chances are the catch is not fully unlatching from the striker, so the pillar isn't able to bend to allow the roof to open. If you move the catch manually so it's cleared the striker the roof will open.Wonder if you can help with a question on behalf of my parents. The fix is to remove the headlining & adjust the sliding catches so that there is enough clearance to clear the striker when the roof is opened. Hard to explain, if you look at it you'll understand where I'm coming from.
