I had this car - 1980, 1600m, DBV 37 W, chassis number 4916FM - through most of the eighties. I saw it for sale, I think, last year and narrowly missed re-purchasing it. Obviously I regret that. It has an interesting history, having been Chris Meeks race car for a season or two (it was yellow then, now Red with a black stripe) then registered for the road.

Love to hear from the guy who now owns it, even if it's non for sale.

Thanks, Tim

Here's one of the adverts I'd seen it in.

Clicky

I'm sure I saw the picture repeated elsewhere in other adverts too, just looking to see if I can find any.

I test drove the car in the late nineties (probably around 1998) with a view to buying it to Hillclimb/Sprint, it wasn't in very good shape then (very tatty, needed some TLC). The engine was definitely trick as you needed to give it a lot of beans to really get going. It felt considerably slower than my then modified Taimar, which surprised me a bit, as I expected the difference in bhp to be made up with the weight difference. I passed on it and left it for someone else to purchase.

(The fact that I'd been driven in a Griff 500 there, probably didn't help with the speed realisation!)

Isn't that the car which Chris Alford won 21 out of 22 Prodsport races, and then sold to Chris Meek?

No, a second 'lightweight' racing car was built for Chris Meek. How lightweight I don't really know, as when I drove the car, the fibreglass seemed pretty stock.

I'm still looking - if you know of it's whereabouts.

Strange how Christmas makes us missed our loved ones!

Tim,

I owned a 1600M (NVX795P - met blue with silver band) for 6 years in the 80's - 90's. It wasn't yours but I can understand the hankering you have. I always thought that if I saw mine for sale that I would snap her up. Since selling it I've owned a 3000S (turbo), Chim, Griff LE and if I could just own one of these, it would be the 1600M. I recently purchased a Vixen S3 which is undergoing a full re-trim. Should be on the road in a few weeks and I constantly wonder how it will compare?

Moto,

Bizarelly, I did own a light metallic-blue with cream stripe 1600m. It had a webasto sunroof and cream/magnolia vinyl interior. I owned it for only a few weeks before returning it to David Gerald - the back axle fell off its mountings. I don't recall the number plate of that car, I never had time to bond with it like the DBV car. I would have had the car (from faded-memory)in 1986 or 87.

I kick myself for not getting the car when it was for sale recently. But I just didn't have the money. Same old story....

Tim,

Hopefully you weren't doing 70mph when it went. I seem to remember that Adrian Venn changed the diff montings on mine as they were a weak point particularly if the engine had been modified. Let us know if you find your old car.

Just wanted to bump this up to the top again.

New Year, new hankering after the old girl. You know how it is.

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Thanks, Tim
