Quickest Route From Glasgow to Nottingham
Discussion
I used to be at Uni at Sheffield and definitely when travelling down in that direction from the North (I'm in Carlisle) it's best to go M6->A66->A1->M1 rather than going anywhere near Manchester - the traffic is significantly less likely to be a problem.
It used to generally take me about 2.5hrs Carlisle to Sheffield that way (assuming light traffic and sensible cruising speed) so I'd add another 2-2.5hrs to that if going from Glasgow to Nottingham.
Either route is much better taken late evening.

Google maps is suggesting the quickest route is taking the M74, M6, A66, then down the A1. Is this really quicker than just taking the M6 all the way down past Manchester to say Stoke and then cutting across?
Autoroute suggests a time of 4h10 min (282 miles) on A74 route . 311miles /5h 17min through edinboro ,and 300miles/4h30 going down a74/M6 to Stoke on Trent and A50 to J24 of M1 and A453 to notts . Personally , I'd be tempted to go ( depending on timeof day/day ) down to Stoke ,through the meir tunnel and cross country on A50 - for starters - the A50 is nocer and you're clear of Cumbria scam territory .And once at J 24 you can decide whether it's quicker to go to J24/25/26 , depending on which part of Notts you're going to . Although of course if coming from Glasgow you would be going through a big wodge of our delightful scam territory on either route
