Evening all,
Was wondering whats the norm when it comes to an injured bird (of the feathered variety..)?
The cat brought me a "present", a young starling (i think?), I can only presume it had fallen from the nest as the cat is hopeless at hunting and has a wee bell on collar to warn any unsuspecting birds.
So what to do with it, I presume vets won't thank you for bringing something in everytime a member of the public finds an injured wild bird or any wild animal for that matter.
Would they be able to advise what to do with the injured bird, a quick google says the RSPB doesnt have any centres to hand in birds.
The wee starling(?) seems to be unable to walk or fly but is drinking water from a wee pipette and doesn't look in pain.
Im in glasgow if that makes any difference.
Mods feel free to move as there is no pet/animal section

I'm sure one day someone will have a heart attack and instead of ringing 999 will instead post on pistonheads asking what to do, after taking a picture of their face going blue of course ...
Jesus is weeping in heaven with your lack of gumption.....
Sorry, maybe if next door had a dog outside you may have a different view......Jesus is weeping in heaven with your lack of gumption.....
Not much you can do, and vets won't do anything.
If you fancy a project you could keep it, but birds (especially baby ones) need a lot of feeding and warmth. It looks like it could have a fooked leg.
Stick it somewhere out of the way and imagine it flew off. Don't look at it later, it won't be flying anywhere.

In all seriousness it's very unlikely to survive - some do but that's only to prove the exception.
The kindest thing you can do is kill it - hold the body and head in different hands and pull -hard- this will break the neck\spinal cord and it will die very quickly.
Alternatively twist the body and head in opposite directions sidewards expect to twist more than 360 degrees, if you can bring yourself to twist in such a way that the head\body match up after they're twisted you can't go far wrong.
Not good on you but the poor bird will lie there for hours in pain then die, or it will survive for hours and hours in pain and you will take it to the vets and they will do the same (and if you're not careful charge you for the privilege).
I wish you all the best
Paul.
