Red Arrows grounded
Discussion
Forgive the sensationalist thread topic but thought I'd bring this up.

Seems all Hawks are grounded across the country. At least they have about a week to get a fix before Cowes.

It is nice. Pity the MoD woudn't have the budget to fund a 9 ship Typhoon Red Arrows team.
God, Yaweh, Allah, Elvis - however you choose to designate the omnipotent, omnipresent deity - well, He doesn't have enough money to run a 9 ship Typhoon formation aerobatic team for a season....let alone the MoD having the readies. That type of largess disappeared with the arrival of the Lightning in RAF service almost 50 odd years ago.
I think we had three or four seasons of Lightning display teams before it was decided they were too big and powerful for team aerobatics and too expensive to operate in that role.

A team descending from the heavens with 'GAF' on them (God Air Force) would at least help prove the existence of said deity!Edited by Simpo Two on Thursday 29th July 09:41

I'll besurprised if the "Reds" survive the Security & Defence Review. I predict a return to the "Black Arrows" with instructors from RAF Valley doing routines in their "spare" time.
Far more important is the fact that its all Hawks that are grounded, not just the Red ones.
No politician would be that crazy.Far more important is the fact that its all Hawks that are grounded, not just the Red ones.
The Reds are as much a symbol of Britain as Big Ben.

Standby for some very harsh choices to have to be made. The Reds are great but the defence budget is under threat to the tune of a 20-25%; if that comes to pass then CAS will have to decide between, say, the Red Arrows and dropping an element of the air forces combat capability; what should he do? Delivering combat capability is waht the RAF has to deliver.
Perhaps BAe, R-R & the FCO should foot the majority of the Reds' bill?
