Having a real problem with The Spanish owned, F1 sponsoring bank, with a red swirl logo.

They closed my account in error 9 days ago, someone walked in to their High Wycome branch and closed my account, while I was in Greece on holidays.

I just simply can not get through to anyone in authority, the complaints department manager last night was clearly pre puberty and actually said the word "Innit" to me. "Its not like we can just go open the account though innit" was his exact statment. Well you closed it with no form of ID didnt you?

Consequently I now have no cash left, couldnt pay for my hotel bill on holiday and had to borrow the money from my mother in law. Yes I was on holiday with her, dont ask! But needless to say this has caused me a huge embarressment and has since bounced my DD's for Amex etc who are complaining about not being paid and even my wages have not been able to be paid in, returing them to my rather confused employer.

Now I used to work in call centres and know there is no point in shouting at them but my branch manager does not exist and I am furious that I have no funds and a damaged credit rating and still no rectification after 9 days!

Anyone please help with the contact of someone in authority there?

Why not go to the local branch and see what can be done there?

jeesh thats not good, perhaps goto branch and demand to speak to highest person in authority then demand them to sort it out.

Presumably you still have your card etc, perhaps go down the route of my card isnt working....

could just open another account with a different bank and rapidly change all direct debits/payments (start with wages first!!!)

as for the credit history, they should be able to fix that once they figure out whats happening/happened!

Thanks Petrol Rich, I am doing that in any case but physically have no funds left now I have just drawn out 500 on my AMEX for pub money at a huge % but its not the money its the lack of any help.

Its the sheer frustration that is driving me mad. I must not have another Stella before I speak to them again or the cat might get in trouble poor little thing its not her fault.

If you are having trouble getting through to anyone with authority, try contacting the Financial Ombudsman Service. They will either get in touch with someone for you, or point you in the right direction.

Actually found a site with his email on but do not hold much hope of a reply. However the address' one or two of the other CEO's on there whom I have had contact with on a more paletable basis, are listed rather acurately.

There should be a specific entry on their records as to why an account was shut down, who by, when and who took the instruction (branch, staff member etc). If you can identify yourself with passwords, answering their inane questions etc as previous they should be able to discuss this with you and resolve the problem.

If someone has wandered into a branch and had your account shut down they should have taken details of who that person was and asked for proof of their identity via bank cards issued, cheque book and/or passport, driving license etc.

If the bank cannot prove who shut the account down or why then report the issue to the Banking Ombudsman, ask them if you or them need to contact the FSA and raise the issue with them and ensure the bank accept full liability for any costs you incurred because of this.

Surely going into a branch, preferably your own and explaining the situation calmly and rationally while holding as many piece of ID as possible will have them re-activate the account straight away.

After all this is a case of fraud isn't it, someone impersonating you to close your account and one guesses take the money out of it at the same time?

Could it be an account number error?

Someone came in to close an account with a number similar to yours and your got closed instead as numpty entered wrong number?

Shame on them for not sorting this ASAP, I would be livid too!

Slightly off-topic.

I am surprised/shocked that someone else managed to close your account due to our experience with them.

We are renting and we still get the previous tenants statements from said bank over a year on. We have no contact details to forward them on, so I thought I would give he bank a ring and ask if they could stop sending the statements or get in contact with them and arrange to be delivered to their new address.

"Sorry but we can't do that sir" was the response after being handed round at the call centre.

So they now go in the bin as we are fed up with "Return to Sender" and being ignored.

This seems more likely to me; the wrong account has been closed, rather than someone intentionally closing your account.

Shocking service from them though, no excuses, I would be looking at reporting them to the financial ombudsman.

Not much help to you at the moment but they really are a shower of ste, their reputation speaks volumes. My dealings with them have been limited to one credit card account which was an absolute debacle. My customer feedback plan is detailed here Turd Trophy

Massive thanks JB! Received. I have replied but got a non delivery on your Mark2 address.

Seems it was a mistaken number on the closure, someone meant to close theirs and closed mine. Fingers crossed the chq of ALL my money is coming to me not them. Truely shocking customer service and internal communications, three phone calls in the last hour all from different staff telling me different things. Ho Hum.

Thanks All, PH yet again comes up trumps.

High Wycombe? That's interesting, I know 3 people who all bank with this bank and have all had money taken from their accounts which was taken out from a branch in high Wycombe! Coincidence?
