Hello

I'm currently on a low-fat diet:

Breakfast - Porridge
Lunch - Chicken fillet, 80g brown rice, frozen veg (not frozen when I eat it, obviously)
Dinner - Chicken fillet (sometimes salmon, cod), veg, no carbs

It's obviously very boring and quite dry, so I need some kind of sauce to liven things up.

Can anyone recommend a sauce (either home made or shop bought) that will go with chicken/rice/veg and maybe one that will go with fish?

I made a salsa with just tomatoes, red onion & fresh mint and whilst nice as a side dish, didn't really work as a sauce.

Rescue me from lunchtime boredom!

For the fish try sauce vierge.

Recipes differ but I usually go for.

Finely diced shallot and tomato (twice as much tomato as shallot)
Finely chopped basil and parsley
Some baby capers
Squeeze of lemon juice
Olive oil

Mix all in a bowl and season to taste.

Very easy and you can try substituting different herb for different flavours.

Some recipes also go for toasted coriander seeds

This is good too and goes with both chicken and fish

There's a BBQ sauce recipe posted on the BBQ thread which is rather good if you have the time / patience to make it.

Alternatively, try the 'Holy Cow' range from Asda or Sainsbury. Himalayan Hot Garlic for meat / chicken, Goan Lime for fish.

not so much sauce but im on low fat and am living of home made hummus and ba ba ganosh ( however you spell that ). hummus makes a good base for other stuff eg i did mackeral pate with it instead of soft cheese.

0 fat yoghurt also makes great dressing if u bung cucumber, mint garlic in etc

have the chicken in pitta bread ( pref home made ) and theres hardly any fat in sight

make your own tomatoe sauce too

Thanks Gents/Lady

Definitely going to make some sauce vierge for the fish, sounds lovely.

The Holy Cow stuff looks great too, but I'd have to check the label for kcals and fat first I think. Unless you've got one to hand, MC? whistle

eldritch - some good ideas there, cheers thumbup

Low fat creme fraiche and mustard. Or mushrooms.

Look for juice-based and creme fraiche-based sauces.
Also, reducing onions (seasoned and fried in a little spray oil) with some beef/lamb stock (from cube) and balsamic can be divine.

Loving the creme-fraiche ideas, Gents. Cheers.

blitz a can of plum tomatos, reduce a bit and add chilli, finely diced veg, herbs or whatever you want. 0 cal, 0 fat.

...or that old standby, a bottle of hot sauce - in my case Barons scotch bonnet, which zips most things up if used very sparingly.
