At home, or abroad?

If abroad try Seville. It's civilized, chav-free, and surprisingly cheap.

I've got a spare bed (bunk bed) and I can supply all the beer (and wine) you can drink. We can go watch Westlife on Friday at the races and in the morning go watch the race horses on the heath. Then how about a nice romantic candle lit dinner in my garden? thumbup

No need to thank me.

Strattons hotel in Swaffham in Norfolk.

Beautiful quiet location in an old country house, the food is divine, and there is plenty to do around and about if you want to go out.

Highly recommended

If you want a break with no kids then you've picked the wrong time of year for it.

Paris in August can be good as mostl Parisians have headed south. Does get sticky if the weather turns hot.

Amsterdam, go nuts, just because you are old doesnt mean you have to be sensible.

See the famous Canal, the famous smoking cafes, the famous sex museum, the famous red light district, the famous hookers in windows.

Thanks people.

Home rather than abroad, I like the sound of the Highlands, we went a couple of times last year and it was very good.

Just checking out that link to Norfolk

Suffolk (Aldeburgh) is lovely. Just go out of the school holidays to avoid Tarquin and Jocasta and their insufferable brats.

The wife works as a school nurse, so we're stuck with the school holidays i'm afraid.

I don't mind nice children anyway, I'm just glad to be getting away without our own !

The wife found that hotel website, many thanks, it looks lovely, but a tad out of our price range, we're more in the "sun newspaper £10 holiday" bracket lol.

There is a castle in Bath which is somewhat romantic, and when we were there you could also go clay shooting in the grounds on the Sunday morning..

How about Dorset? I had a lovely holiday a few years back where we walked the south-west coastal path and camped / slept in the car / got cheap B&Bs en route.
