I want to trickle charge my battery via the cigarette lighter but it's not working ( the lighter that is)
I've had a look & all fuses seem ok but the handbook doesn't mention which fuse protects it.
Anyone know?

Can't help with the fuse, but mine (V8S) is only live with the ignition on, switch on and try again. If this works, the fuse is a red herring and you need to rewire the socket or find another point to connect the charger to.

FWIW the cigarette lighter on my 97 Chim is permanently on. I have a vague recollection that there might be an in-line fuse holder wired into the loom next to the cigarette lighter, but that could be complete toss. It's been at least a year since I had my hand inside the door and can't remember properly.

not much help but ditto that - hence the road angel has to be unplugged even if its parked somewhere safe and I dont need to remove it

Yeah, I'm sure the lighter worked with the ignition off when I got the thing.
Surely even TVR wouldn't have hidden the fuse inside the door; would they?

ATG & SHNOZZ

The reason your ciggy lighter is permanently on is,
there are two wires going to it and they have been mixed up so the light stays on. Luckily I realised this before reassembly There may be a fuse as well on one of them, or maybe just a connector?

That's if my memory serves me right, which is more than a little unusual

should have been more clear ... the cigarette lighter socket is permanently live; the light around the socket is only on with the headlights

Err...They all do that Sir, except for Poorpetes of course.

I may have it completely wrong, but... I thought that the act of pushing in the ciggy lighter made a circuit and heated the element, so really its just like a button (except that the element gives some resistance to the current, it therefore gets hot).
Or do you mean that the element heats without being pushed in? If so its a dodgy element (bit you light a fag with).
