Would I be OK with SVA? I'm fitting some from a Jag S type into my Libra but just wanted to make sure I will still pass!

Can't really help with the SVA question I'm afraid Rich, but, at the risk of hijacking the thread, why did you choose Jag units?

No reason other than I could get hold of some.
The easy solution would be spending £500 or so on one of the H4 bi-xenon conversion kits but I fancy a different look for the car too... Whatever you do, some fabrication will be needed to fit the ballast resistor close ot the headlight on the flip front...

Are the units E marked? I believe they must be for the test.

I looked at the lights fitted to the Puma (and others form other cars) as they consist of projector type units within the whole assembly. The E mark is on the main unit so if I stripped out the lights and uesd them in a custom housing I'm not sure if they would comply.

Somebody on the GTM forum just told me that in order for Xenons ot be compliant I must have self levelling suspension and washer units. Guess it'll be a post SVA mod then!

I noticed last when I picked up my new Passat that there is no load compensation dial for the headlights. Apparently the xenons have a doohickey to do it for you.

Would be a bugger to set up for the mot/sva, me thinks.

I'm starting to sound like a real worrier, but just be careful when proding about getting your xenons to work, they use a dangerously high voltage like 50,000 volts!!

I'll be careful
My main problem is getting it all in a sealed enclosure next to the headlight as the high voltage wiring is very short. Not sure if I could extend it much, it's also shielded so I would have to source more of that. I want to get all that sorted out before SVA, I don't think I would have the willpower to not drive it as soon as it has passed. I also want to rubbercoat all the wheel arches before it is driven at all and removing areas of that would be a pain..

Not sure I should mention this here but I have a pair of UK Audi TT headlights for sale if anybody's interested, they're in the classified section.

Yes, you will need washers, "e" marks and a levelling system (either on the lamps themselves or on the car's suspension).

Will all these requirements be checked at MOT time too? Just wondering whether a post-SVA mod is going to cause hastle 12 months down the line...
