Wasn't it just the original 60gb that was backwards compatible?

Ah, now there's a question. Not sure. Is there any visual hints as to what sort I need to have to give an answer of "yes, you can"?

If you have 4 usb ports, a memory card reader and a 60gb hard drive, then you have the 60gb version.

Aye, just the original 60's were backward compatible, they had the flappy bit at the front that hide the memory card slots as well as the 4 USB slots.

Oh God, bought this about what, 2 years ago and I don't think it has 4 usb ports.

Dammit. Absolutely loved Vice City. Maybe I'll just buy a PS2 for the hell of it (you can still find PS2's hanging around right?)

Morning. Right, sorry for delay, I've found this serial number on the back of my PS3, CECHG03.

Does this mean it's forward compatible for PS2 games or no?

Thanks, Simon.

Just put a PS2 game in, it'll either say it can't play this game or load it straight up.

No, I don't think yours is backward compatible. The only ps3's that are backward compatible end with CECHC02, CECHC03, CECHC04 and CECHC08.

Mine plays PS1 & PS2 games, it's one of the launch day 60gb models. I occassionally fire up GTA:SA (I managed to copy over my saved game from the PS2 with a memory card adapter). I've tested it with Silent Hill for the PS1 as well.

The only downside is the graphics look pretty terrible on LCD/ plasma screen compared to older CRT displays.

I do hate the way they removed that ability. I have a 60gb model which I bought ready for GT5 near launch (har har), and one of my most-played games is GT4. If I'd held off a little, waiting for them to get cheaper, then I'd probably not have bought one. Being able to play PS2 games is a massive thing.
