Panniers - all the same fitting?
Discussion
I've just bought myself a new bike for pottering around roads on, and I've had the guys at the shop fit a rear rack so I can carry stuff around not on my back.
It's just a boggo standard rack, so will all the panniers on sites such as Wiggle and Edinburgh Cycles fit on there no problem? I'm thinking of a couple of these - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Altura_Arran_16_... -.
Any other little hints/tips of what I should be looking for with these? Any brands to look out for / avoid?

The real answer is no, not all racks are the same size, but oversize rack rails are very, very rare, so to all intents and purposes, the answer is yes.
I don't want to recommend specific models, but I would say that Rixen & Kaul Klickfix fittings (the bits that connect to the rack - lots of people use R&K) are wonderful to use.
Oh, and my wife had a pair of Basil (girlie) panniers that split within months (very light use). The distributor replaced without question, but I wouldn't buy them again.

Hi,
If your going to the time and trouble to buy some panniers, would assume that you will therefore want many years and trips out of them so spend a little extra and they will last.
Bought some Karrimor panniers and frame(before Karrimor sold out) many years ago and still going strong and having just gone from MTB to a tourer have just bought some Altura Orkney front and rear which seem well made,
Off tomorrow on a litte trip for a few days,
Martyn...........
