Capello's successor will be an Englishman
Discussion
The FA has announced that Capello is contracted to 2012 but after that they expect to appoint an Englishman.
Not bothered about Capello one way or the other, but how is this announcement supposed to get the best out of him until 2012? Seems about as well advised as making all our military intentions public.

Lets face it he did a really terrific job at Newcastle.
Yet another totally moronic announcement from the FA. The only even remotely successful English manager is Happy Harry and they will never hire him becuase of the brown envelopes and tax er.. issues. If Jose or even Sir Alex (not going to happen I know) suddenly said I'll have a go, do you really think the FA will turn them down?
Nevermind. When, based on yesterdays results, Blackpool win the Premiership maybe they can appoint Holloway?

The only way I could see us doing well now would be a manager who could get through to the players and give them a bking when they need it. Someone like sir alex could do it but I imagine I would take. Lot of cash to get home to even consider it.

IMHO opinion until there is a root & branch change at the top of English football, the long term situation for the national team will remain the same.
Too many blazers, too many sponsorship deals, too many vested interests, too many journalists greasing palms for too many exclusives, too many WAGs with over-inflated egos, too many players with over inflated egos, too many pointless friendlies, Too many fixtures: The League Cup for Premiership sides; why?
Until we get all that lot sorted out it doesn't matter if Marvin The Martian is England coach we will win a bit less than bugger all.

If the World Cup proved one thing. It's that it doesn't matter WHO the manager is. The current "Team" have a) no inclination to do well b) no desire to work as a unit with each other and c) have egos so destructive NO manager can overcome.
Now granted a lot of this is because it's the same 6-7 people picked every time. Apparently the U21 team played a while back and I'm told if that team were brought in wholesale they'd actually do quite well.

Stupid announcement, I agree. Answered a question that nobody is currently asking and serves no purpose whatsoever.
But just to throw my two pence in, I'd rather like to see someone with a credible international management record as the next England Manager. We've seen too many highly rated club managers fail at the job. Let's see someone with a relevant track record for once. Don't care what nationality frankly.

reform at the fa is whats needed not just the manager. maybe if they given the players a break before the world cup like many other countries did they wouldnt have all looked so knackered. maybe if we had been playing with the right fking ball before the tourlament we might have stood a chance.
pearce and beckham double act for me. so what if its untested they could hardly do any worse at least they would have english passion. + would be good to see beckham go fk you capello its my job now so you can stick your last game

We're used to peculiar FA statements by now, but what strikes me as interesting about this one is the implicit assumption that Capello can/will do nothing between now and the the end of his contract that will make the FA want to extend it. Which strongly implies that they would have outed him now if they could have done so without looking stupid – an impossible task of course after they'd painted themselves into a corner by signing him up to a very generous contract before the World Cup. If commercial businesses were run as ineptly as the FA there would surely be public inquiries.
