Hi - I am looking at a Tudor Sub. Needs a little bit of work eg scratched glass. It is a snowflake circa 73. I am not sure what I should be paying for such a watch?

Anyone know what they go for?

I really quite fancy one, a little different to the Rolex Subs and as my dad has a Tudor then it seems right.

thanks

The snowflakes command a bit more than the standard Tudor subs. I think I saw one in pretty good condition for close to £2k.

Does it have any paperwork, service history?
Does it have the original hands, dial and bezel?

I have a similarly aged Tudor Sub (although not a Snowflake) and love it. smile

OK thanks. Ebay people seem to want more than £2K. I am looking to pay about £1200 but I am not sure if the seller might think that a little low. I guess once I get it looked at it might cost me a fair bit to get it up to scratch.

YHM. I reckon between £1,500 and £2,000 depending on factors that LukeBird asked about (does that sound about right Luke? bit high?).
You may pick up an altered one for less, I'm not sure.
Time spent in reconnaissance is seldom wasted as they say - have a good read up on them as there can be pitfalls, like any expensive watch of this era I suppose.

Here's an example: http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?p=12... but as I say, be careful out there!

(Ha - this one made me laugh! http://forums.watchuseek.com/f23/help-needed-real-... )

Maybe a touch high.
I reckon more like £1250-£2000.
At £2k it'd have to be mint and with paperwork though. Snowflakes do seem a fair whack more than 'normal' Tudor Subs!

OP you need to confirm whether it has any paperwork or service docs and it's service history.
The one I bought had neither, but it was the right price for a gamble. smile

Hi - well I have just bought it for £1200 plus auction fee. As fdollows:-

"Tudor. A collectable stainless steel automatic wristwatch
Submariner Prince Oysterdate "Snowflake", Reference 94110, Case Number 961087, Circa 1973
25-jewel ETA Cal. 2784 "Auto-Prince" movement, matt black dial with large luminous hourly markers and date aperture at three o'clock, later luminous "Snowflake" hands, rotating calibrated bezel with black insert, screw down triple-lock Oyster crown flanked by rounded crown guards, polished tonneau case by Rolex numbered 9411 to the inside back, fitted maker's Oyster link bracelet with folding flip-lock clasp, together with box and associated papers
case, dial and movement signed 37mm.

Footnote:
The unusual shape and large size of the luminous hands are a design feature initially introduced to improve readability whilst diving in low visibility conditions. Predominantly used in its early years by divers in the French military, the "Snowflake" Submariner soon became an icon on the civilian market and has become one of the most collectible vintage Tudors made to date.

Due to the natural deterioration of luminous paint the hands are a more recent replacement of a conforming style to the originals.

I think I'm pleased! I havent done my homework if I'm honest. The watch may or may not be good value but I like Tudor subs for various reasons and so was keen to buy one through a reputable source. Bought via Bonhams which I hope is a good way to do it.

It was in the Goodwood auction over the weekend. I think it failed to reach its reserve and so I talked to Bonhams via email last night and agreed a deal today.

picked it up from Bonhams 1/2 an hour ago. Now wearing it. Looks like a good clean and all is well.... Dont know how to change the date...
Got the box n papers.
Think I will take to a local watch guy near where I work (Clerkenwell) and see what he thinks.
It has a rolex strap though - I thought 73s were Tudor straps.

Edited to add that I changed the date now!

Similar to the Rolex milsub post, here's an example of a '77 issued Tudor snowflake - going for nearly E8,000...

Gazza - good news, be really good to see it once it's cleaned up.
