Hi there.
As has been said already both camera and recorder are 12 volt. A camera will typically use less than half an amp per hour, the DVR will use 3-4 amps per hour. A recorder and hard drive for a single camera is going to be around £200, a camera £60 to £140 depending on type.
We have loads of advice on our cctv42 website covering most aspects of CCTV and if there's anything specific which we don't cover email or call on the phone.
Another alternative is to locate the camera and DVR away from the container and use a powerful zoom lens to get close up detail. We do a 6-60mm CCTV camera which is extremely powerful both in terms of the lens and the I/R. You can read a car registration at 60 metres (there are actual day and night screen shots if you follow the link). By locating your CCTV system in this way you would also be able to make use of any internet connection to remote view the footage.
I hope that helps. I've included links to our site not to try and contravene any of the P/H rules but to try and provide information / examples of CCTV cameras etc.
Hope that helps.
