I've wanted to build a good sized model ship for a while, can anyone point me in the direction of a good kit if possible please?
Predominately I'm more interested in merchant navy stuff, large container ships oil supertankers etc.
Thanks in advance!
I built a couple of boats from these guys, they are not cheap and the kits demand a lot of youPredominately I'm more interested in merchant navy stuff, large container ships oil supertankers etc.

you might want to avoid the planked hull to start with although I found it very satisfying to see the shape emerge, it also depends if you want to use em or just display them

He designs and builds very high quality model boat kits, but not sure if just sailing ships.
Here's a retailer who might help you get started. Nothing too ambitious on here - and even some stuff with pre-formed hulls. All listed with relevant dimensions.

They are very nice people and manufacture good kits - should be just what the OP is after.www.modelslipway.com/
Oh, and if you come across Deans Marine kits, and you think 'Wow, that's just what I'm looking for!', please be aware that these kits are for VERY experienced modellers only....
(we have no kits of the type the OP is looking for)
Sorry for the late reply chaps I have been at work all day.
Some questions, what sort of tools/equipment (paint wise and glue) will i require?
I think I would rather build a static model over an RC one. All I have to do now is find a model of the "Emma Maersk" and i'll be very happy indeed!
ETA.. Ive fallen in love!

Have you built this sort of model before? If not, please take not that most of the superstructure is in printed plasticard - you have to cut each part out yourself - and virtually every part will need attention. If you already know this, and are prepared for a 'labour of love', and it's what you want, go for it.Some questions, what sort of tools/equipment (paint wise and glue) will i require?
