I need to replace my ancient road tyres and I am out of touch with what's available these days.

The ones going are kevlar beaded fold-able Michelins, and I'd be looking for something similar.

Any suggestions?

Michelin Pro Race 3's have done me proud over the last year, not had a great deal of punctures and seem to be wearing pretty well too

I must have been unlucky then because I had a pair of Pro-Race and they were the worst tyres for punctures I've ever owned (including 4 in one day banghead ).

At the moment I'm running a pair of Continental GP4000S and have yet to have a puncture (kiss of death I know!).

As Neilski, I run Contis on my roadbike. No complaints after many miles.

I commute on my road bike, and have had good experience with Conti Gatorskins and Bontrager Armadillos.

I hope that wasn't the kiss of death to tonights ride.

I'm not a fan of Pro-Race tyres either. Much prefer my Vittoria Rubino Pros or GP4000s - either have had fewer punctures & had better wet weather grip in my experience.

Edit to add: I loved my Veloflex Paves as well, very light and compliant though slightly less durable (more competition than everyday).

Thanks for the suggestions.

Are they all foldable / kevlar beaded.

Don't think I could go back to wire beads...

That's pricey

I paid £47.82 per pair at Ribble using the TRIP7 code

you can get some michelin speediums on amazon for not a lot of money

they aren't pro 3 race, but they are nice enough for riding about on

alternatively, as wetter roads are coming, I am fitting Vittoria Open Pave CG to one of my bikes - smashing and a lovely green colour too!

Vittoria Open Paves for all-weather and/or rougher road surfaces, or Vittoria Open Corsas for drier, smoother roads. Nothing else comes close.

Interesting re the Vittoria's.

Do they go on easily by hand?

Yuppo, used them on the Paris Roubaix sportive - no punctures and super grippy, even on wet cobbles.

Use GP4000Ss most of the time on the nice bike.

IIRC, yes: can't say I ever take much notice, TBH. Even if they were, any fitting difficulties are soon forgotten when you ride them. They are in every way, perfect: fast rolling, super plush and very, very grippy.

Just FYI - I do like the Conti Ultra Sports but they are a TOTAL B1TCH to pop on by hand.
I was very close to getting a hernia.
The cheapo Bontrager Hard Cases went on easy.

Also look into the Schwalbe range of tyres. Theyve got a good range for all types of road riding. My favourites are the ultremo r's.
