Router problem
Discussion
I'm currently working to fix a problem where I am getting frequent disconnections and slow download speeds, I've come to the conclusion that my router may be at fault.
I've run some web-based speed tests on my Internet connection and it appears that I am only getting about 2Mbits/s. What I don't understand is that according to the router configuration app I am getting around 8Mbits/s.
How can the router and the web based tests come up with such different results? Does it back up the theory that the router is faulty?

ADSL? Could be your BRAS which is the maximum data rate that BT will allow down your line. If things get screwed up you can end up with a router that syncs at 8mbps but a BRAS of 2mbps.I've run some web-based speed tests on my Internet connection and it appears that I am only getting about 2Mbits/s. Or since you mentioned disconnections it could be wiring. Have you tried with your router connected to the master socket and no other extensions connected?

The router rarely connects first time, the DSL light flashes then goes steady but before the Internet light comes on, the DSL light goes off again and the process repeats.
