Well hacked off.

When we had our drive/garage done last year the weather turned over the weekend before the builder was going to come back to seal the drive, so it never happened. I've got the stuff in the garage and a roller to slap it on with.

Trouble is, the drive is now dirty. It has rust marks, oil marks, discolouration from water running off next door's drive, etc.

I want to seal it to stop it getting worse, but have to clean it first.

I have brushed one part of the drive today and used some Swarfega oil/grease remover neat on some of the oil spots, scrubbed, and rinsed off. I can see already that the oil spots are still there frown

The plan is to brush the drive clear of leaves/debris, nuke the stains with more of this neat stuff, leave it, really scrub it, and rinse it off. Then wash the whole drive with a pressure washer/patio cleaner and some swarfega drive cleaner.

Then when bone dry (here's hoping for an Indian summer), brush in some more sand (what's the special type I'm supposed to use?), and then roller on the sealing stuff.

I know I could turn some of the bricks upside down, but I am sure I will make a horlicks of it and they won't be level or even...

Thoughts?

Anybody? WOrth persevering with the oil/grease remover? Doesn't seem to have touched the spots. Any tips for using it? Some of the oil has been there 6 months.

Should I just suck it up and flip the bricks?

After 6 months I think the chances of getting the oil off the blocks are slim. frown

Use petrol.

There was a thread here about a month ago where somebody recomended a product that was used with great success.

ps the blocks are unlikely to be flippable due to having a different profile and finish

Repeat the process with the oil stains, try Jizer engine cleaner, not the usual patio cleaner type stuff. Every time you do it you wash some away, and then the rest wicks up to the surface, but it does eventually disperse and/or blend in okay after several cleanings.

Thanks guys - have tried several times and it's just not shifting. Lesson learned, will have a go as soon as the marks appear next time. Will flip the blocks.

Splosh it on, scrub it in, leave it to soak an hour, wash off thoroughly. Repeat after a few days, for a couple of weeks, or whenever you think about it.
