4 months to get the poor buggers out!! Does it really take that long to get a 2 foot tunnel dug down to them? Not surte how I'd feel about being stuck with 32 other people in a shelter the size of a small flat....

I just heard this on the news I heard; "Blah blah miners, blah, alive, blah blah yay! Awesome blah blah. (I wasn't really paying attention) But will take until Christmas to get them out. Bye."

WHAT? Pardon? One line abou t he fact that they're going to be bored stless for 4 months? As much as it's a good story that these people are alive, I'd have thought 4 months trapped underground would be absolutely devastating from a mental health perspective and that's worthy of some comment.

Surely there is an engineering solution that can get them out in a week?

They should stick some fibre-optics cameras down there and screen the inevitable mental breakdown on More4. We could call it Hermano mayor......

BP seem to be able twice as far a lot more quickly, but I guess the diameter of the hole and the hardness of the rock may be different.

You get used to it after a while, can't be much worse than being under for 3 months on a SSBN. Mind you, at least they have toilets, showers, hot food etc. It's only when you get out that you realise you absolutely fking stink to high heaven. yikesvomit

Anyone else think if it does take that long, they are unlikely to be bringing out all 33 alive? frown

As has already been mentioned, how are they going to cope with sanitation? Is the effluent going to, well, build up somewhat? Someone is going to get ill and then it'll spread like wildfire in the close confines.

This could yet not have a happy ending, sadly.

Aha. I know what you mean, but with 13 years previously on ships I'm glad to say I still managed to uphold my levels of personal hygiene wink

As mentioned, they wouldn't notice the smell after a while. But their health would suffer, months of lack of sunlight, boredom. Struggle cuddles.
