New gold farm is great smile

We have built a potion machine at our base and are currently building an Alchemy shop in at the spawn hub so that people can get potions without making them themselves.

The only 3 things that are difficult to get for brewing are

Puffer fish - have built a fishing dock so we can fish all night
Rabbits Foot - have brought some back through the nether from the new 1.8 land and are now breeding them at our base, have a looting sword so hoping to get some
Ghast tears - no idea how we are going to get a supply of these - any ideas?

Was thinking we need a portal near the shopping area in the spawn hub, somewhere near the wool shop, the general store and our Alchemy shop

It must be getting near the time for a monthly payment for the server, have you any paypal details so we can send you a donation

thumbup thanks for letting us play on a great server

Looks like there is a couple of blocks missing at the blaze farm killing point but don't want to put any back in case I do it wrong

You need an enchanted fishing rod with Luck of the Sea III and Lure III on it. Lure makes the waiting time for a catch much shorter and Luck of the Sea greatly reduces the chances of getting crap catches. I have some puffer fish stashed away in my collection. I'll trade them for a large quantity of sand please. smile

Ghast tears are a pain to get. You need a flat enclosed area with a low ceiling roof ideally then go at them with a fortune III sword. Again, I could be tempted to trade mine for sand.

I rarely use potions at all personally. If I'm doing any major work in the nether I'll generally take an 8 min fire resist in case I fall in lava but I don't bother with the other potions.

A portal can be easily sorted out. Just give me the x and z co-ords of the 2 blocks where you want the swirly bit of the portal to appear in the overworld.

Terry/Luke, umm had a bit of an incident in your new potion room earlier. I saw some juicy looking clay blocks in the wall to add to my collection but didn't realise there was water behind it (should've known that tbh, doh). The water ran over your hopper and down into the dip where your redstone is. From what I can tell it's only washed away 3 bits of redstone, a torch and a repeater which I've rounded up and put in a chest. I could probably figure out where they're meant to go but I don't want to mess it up or make it worse so I'll let you guys fix it up. Sorry chaps. frown

Btw, you need more light in that base. The redstone wiring disaster was nearly a whole lot worse as there was a creeper roaming around where the pistons are. eek I've placed a bunch of torches down which should be enough to stop them spawning in there.

Btw 2, it's always a very good idea to place any redstone wiring stuff on a non-natural block type so that if you happen to be mining out any new areas in the vicinity you won't accidentally mine a block that has redstone on top of it. Personally I use stone brick blocks and their variants as they don't spawn naturally except in a few specific places. It's also a good idea to enclose wiring on all sides with a non-natural block too in case of any water accidents nearby winkhehegetmecoat

Thanks guys, much appreciated! spin

I just stopped by your spawn shop enroute to Martin's house to raid his tree leaves wink. I see you are wanting bottle donations. Well, I have good news for you - my mob farm produces witches which drop bottles and there is a collection chest for them at the far end of the room. Take them all!

On a separate note, I've just been the wither skeleton farm after a long time to farm me some skulls. No spawns! Waited ages, moved around, normal ones spawn along with the other nether mobs, but no wither skeletons. Just checked the wiki to make sure nothing had changed and spotted this snippet :

"Wither Skeletons are now just over 2.5 blocks high as of 1.8, and require 3 vertical blocks of space to spawn."

grumpy That's just what I wanted to hear when all my spawn pads are 2.5 blocks high and they took a monumental amount of time to build. Now the whole place is useless.

I have been mulling over the idea of moving the spawn point 10000 blocks away and opening up the server for applications on minecraftforums.net to attract some new blood. The untouched world at that new location could be put forward as it being a fresh world and those of us willing to go along with it could effectively start from scratch (which is always fun). Once known to be trustworthy we could then let them into the secret about it not be so new after all hehe.

Advantages :

- keeps them away from all our current work/nothing to grief.
- Gives the prerequisite time period to see if they're trustworthy.

Disadvantages :

- potentially stumbling across other builds during exploration/discovering nether tunnels, portals.
- having to fend off questions about the End and the Ender dragon, which of course are long since dead.

Genius idea or am I in for a whole world of pain and it all go horribly wrong?

People are still playing, and quite regularly from perusing the server logs, it's just that we're all on at different times of the day/night. I want the server to be very active but I just don't have the time to babysit what all the newbies are doing.

I wonder if I can get an add to the server? Account name is Consort

I've been playing minecraft (single player) on and off since way back and, since Im as stuck as a very stuck thing in Divinity and a little bored of Rodina for now, I fancy building some things. The chitchat of an online server would be very welcome smile

Playtime might not be as high as most but happy to help out where I can.

I like the idea of getting a few peeps added on to the whitelist, PH just doesn't have enough MC'ers to make for a busy sever. I'm happy to move spawn and start a fresh while having a link to the 'old' location and stuff. I've no objection to putting this up on the forums

My only worry would be trusting people. Griefing could be a problem. I do like the idea though of having more people on and starting with a new spawn point.
Is there a way of protecting the existing areas? are there any addons that can be added to stop griefing?

Pretty sure you can put protection on certain areas so blocks can't be placed. Not sure how though.

I think the idea of bringing new people on is good smile

Just hide all of your good stuff in an Ender Chest first!!

Martin, I've just read the server logs for past few days. That bird seems to be fretting over nothing. If the stuff isn't within/in someone's base with a name on the door then it's fair game. Just tell her get cracking and stop worrying about everything. You've been on server long enough to know it's easy going and generally a free for all so long as you use your common. Sounds like she's been on servers with power tripping mods and admins where you get banned for walking on the wrong patch of grass. I'll white-list that Sasha bird as well. Dave (dwlove) and Terry (jetblack) have been on and off recently but just at different times to you 2 that's why you haven't seen them.

To answer the other posts above which I've not had time to address til now, there are of course mods to protect areas but this is a vanilla no-mods server and the reason it's as (relatively) cheap and reliable as it is is because this host doesn't cater for modded minecraft. Well that's not strictly true - they do, but it's at such an extortionate rate that it's not even an option. I really don't want to get into mods again as I know from bitter experience that they have a habit of breaking on a regular basis, particularly new game version releases and I just don't have the time, patience nor desire to deal with that crap.

As for moving spawn point, getting new players in etc, you guys need to vote for what you want to do. Personally, I like doing stuff on my own whilst having the chitchat of other players in the background and periodically go for a nosey to see what everyone else is up to, so for me I'm quite happy to continue as I am with my island base. But the server does need more life. I don't think simply moving the spawn point will encourage the current inactive white-listed players to suddenly start playing again so if going down this route it would probably have to come with an injection of new players from elsewhere, with the risks that come with that. To avoid awkward questions everyone participating would essentially have to start from scratch, with no tools, armour or any other goodies and there be no link to the current world area. This is do-able but I worry about the new players asking about the End/finding strongholds/throwing Eyes of Ender. Once they've proved themselves trustworthy and happy to integrate without wreaking havoc then there's no issue telling them about the other areas, but they might not like the deception of it not being the new server they thought it was.

Let me know your thoughts.

Not sure what the answer is to get new players in. It would be good to see more people on line but as I am not very good at typing and playing at the same time it makes it difficult to communicate with other players.

I will go along with whatever everyone else wants to do, I am easy going

Anyway, what the actual fk is that horrendous texture pack you're using? The chicken is made from white wool blocks but that texture pack makes a complete arse of it.
