She does have a bit of a point. I was borrowing some variant of Audi A4 from work the other day and the dial went up to an absurd 180MPH but the range to 80MPH was covered by about 1/3rd of the dial so it was quite hard to very quickly glance and see your speed. A real ergonomic fkup I thought - if you want to have wk fantasy top speeds on you 2.0 TDi speedo then at least have the sense to use a non linear dial.Like this

+1 to that last; much more fun when the speedo only went to 80mph on your Mini, and you could boast about smacking the needle on the underside of the '0' pin after your hot 1275cc build (which scaled to about 110-120) 
going off the clock is much more impressive, my 1975 SIII Land Rover can do it 
but that speedo only goes to 75mph
