A guy at work often acts like he's interested in cars, I suspect so he can join in on some conversations.
He's 17, so has been driving a few months.
I asked how his new car was (1.4l skoda fabia shed). He replies "it's quite fast actually, I keep wheel spinning out of traffic lights by mistake!"
A conversation later went along the lines of;
Him: Is your car rear engined?
Me: Yeah rear engined, rear wheel drive.
Him: What size engine does it have?
Me: 700cc (smart roadster)
Him: Ah, mines got twice as much power as yours then.
Me: ????
He also once told someone that he hasn't yet figured out whether his car is front or rear wheel drive.
It's strangely easy to spin the wheels in a small hatchback; the combination of light weight, springy clutch and small tyres works well. Add that to inexperience and probably cheapo plasticky low grip tyres and you've got a recipe for lighting up the front wheels. I used to do so all the time in my Fiesta. Weirdly the replacement Mazda, which is twice as powerful, is much harder to provoke. Very little power is actually required to break traction. He's 17, so has been driving a few months.

However a Smart Car? Not so sure, I tried for ages to spin the wheels on gravel and got mostly nowhere. It is possible (just) by holding it on the handbrake and tricking the auto clutch thingy into engaging. Proper manual works better!
Smart's don't spin wheels, the ESP is really aggressive (in snow I couldn't reverse up a slight incline as every time the wheels skidded even slightly the ESP cut all power - I had to get someone to push me, but on the bright side he said it was very easy as it's very light!)

Your talking about a fortwo, not a roadster. You can 'relax' the ESP on a roadie to enable tractable progress in snow. In a fortwo, its permanently on so your going nowhere.Edit: didn't see your profile that you've a roadie. In which case, don't know about yours but we never had any issues in snow, in fact it was brilliant.
But yes, we've never spun the back wheels on our old ones, both remapped roadie and a brabus roadie, from launching in 1st gear full throttle. It just ups and goes! Sliding it around a 2nd gear tight roundabout was fun though.

To be fair that's a bit Potato/Potahto as the Corrado basically followed on where the Scirocco left off, it is a Scirocco by another name, to the extent that if you go to the Corrado Wikipedia page, the predecessor is listed as Scirocco and the Successor is listed as Scirocco and if you go to the Scirocco page the successor is listed as Corrado.

My wife refers to any faux by four she sees as a jeep.
That one gets to me too! Also, the number of times people comment on how nice my Scirocco is. I drive a Corrado!
I can forgive them though as I'm polite to anyone nice enough to take an interest in it.

The usual PC BBC line would be "Other brands of tools are available"
