of journey I mean.

Had a day in work in the UK yesterday, so took the opportunity to take the (new shiney) V8S up to Surrey to show off to a petrolhead mate (oh, and go to a meeting too). He was dutifully and suitably impressed with the noise etc.

Got back home after the journey back down the M4 and the exhaust note seemed to sound 'deeper and richer' than when one normally does the local 'pootle' about on the weekend.

Or was it my hearing after 5+ hours of listening to it and the wind noise?

If your exhaust is relatively new, I know it can take some time for the inside to coat and it does alter the note a little!!

No can do on the de-cat, its 93 L, but it makes sufficient noise through our narrow little valley streets for the wife to get the kettle on before I turn into our road(!)

That'll be loud enough (especially with a 6am start yesterday )

I had the same sensation last saturday when i went on a longer trip than normal. The exhaust note seemed to drop and it was much easier on the ear [finding my new system a bit too loud jury still out on this ]
i even stoped the car and had a look underneath to check it was OK? After a stop to look round offord motors it was back to its old self
It did seem quiter on the way back but that was @ 90 not 70 so maybe thats the answer. look out Mr Licence.

scuse the pun

I started to think that it may have something to do with the heat of the exhaust system - presumably the acoustic qualities would change as it got hotter?

every chance I'm talking bollox here mind you!

Funny... mine's the other way around - absolutely howls at 90 - deafening (in a good way!)

Hard to tell at the mo' though - exhaust blowing a bu66er again - think I'm gonna get some adjustable front shocks to increase some ground clearance: can't open bonnet properly - ever, and exhaust clouts everything (drove over not fully flattened roadkill this morning - exhaust caught it, and exploded the carcass all over the place - chassis is probably looking redder than it did new)

The sound of my S clearly changes the longer it's driven for... and the hotter the exhaust gets.

Since the removal of the cats I thoroughly enjoy setting off car alarms in small villages...

I thought it was the manufacturing data that was important, not the registration date..?

My beetle was registered in 1973 on an L plate however I contacted WV in Germany to find out when it was actually made, which was late 1972.. accordingly I managed to get it registered as Tax Exempt (the cutoff for that being 31st Dec 1972).. same logic might well apply here.?

Cheers

No, for Cats it's vehicles REGISTERED 1st August 1992 onwards.

The date of manufacture only applys to Tax Disk rules.

Thanks for the clarification.

Have to say though (even though it may be considered heresy around these parts) that I'm happy enough to keep the cat on it.

As I said in a previous post, I think its loud enough as it is.
