Alright Silent1
I do it but not every night. I remember most nights and sometimes leave it on in the day.
Just got through 100 work units, but I did some before I needed to re-set the system after trying out Linux a while ago.
It would be good to set up a 'Pistonheads' team.

would be interested in running joining up but on my HTPC (rather than ps3).. its pretty beefy. 8gig, quad core .. so i really should put it to some use, its also hardly used [as i play games more than watch movies] so would happily leave it on/running for days at a time.
let us know the details and i'll download/join the PH team.

As i said, here's what to do: Go to network. Open Life with playstation Press triangle and familiarise yourself with the menus: in indentity you want to select join exisiting team and put the number in (193775) Also you want to set up auto shutdown to "after current" this will then turn your PS3 off once it's completed that unit (approx 5 hours worth) The to optimise it, you want to set the settings to expert mode as this disables the other channels and turns it into a proper F@H set-up, also it is worth turning the screensaver on as this speeds up the calculations by ~5mins in every hour.
I'll rewrite this when i'm up and looking at my PS3, right now i'm going to bed after an epic battle with my PC all day.

my htpc's been running flat out with the SMP Client (100% usage on all 4 cores) for 4 hours now and is only 35% through its first go! mental. interestingly i can use it fully as it seems to allocate cpu for anything i want to open without issue and instantly, which im impressed with - so i see no reason why i cant let this thing number crunch all day long.. sweet as.

However I have read up and its a good cause so I have joined the team and my PS3 is doing something or other for the next few hours. I'm going to leave it on overnight and see what happens. When you said you can set it to auto-shutdown, would you do this within the main PS3 menu or the folding@home menu?

Within folding@home, you need to leave the life with playstation open for F@H to do the work. Then in either general settings or F@H settings there's auto shutdown, click that and then click "after current". Obviosuly press triangle to get the options menu up.

No problem, it would be nice to think we can do something useful with them when we're not using them

Well it has completed its first unit now.
However like a numpty I didn't change the default name so mine is coming up as 'PS3', doh! I have changed it now to '-crookedtail-' so hopefully it'll update when I do another unit although not sure on when that'll be as I'm away for the weekend now.

i left 2 pc's running this last night, weirdly both crashed out at 3:10am according to the logs .. yet this isnt internet dependant is it? - i thought it just downloaded the file, then crunched, then sent info back at the end.. unless it needs a constant connection and my internet probably went down at 3am [was all ok when i woke this am]?? .. i restarted the crunching before i left for work but they still arent on that list.. im assuming theyve probably stopped again.. I may just have to use the ps3 option instead at this rate
