PS3 flashing red light

My PS3 has given up the ghost with 3 beeps and a flashing red light. A bit of googling suggested overheating so I've made sure the vents are all clean, popped the drive out to clean off any dust in the bay and let it cool down, but it's still doing it. Anyone come across any other suggestions?

What type of PS3??

Try google PS3 fan test (insert version here)

that runs your fans at full tilt for a while and will hopefully blast out any crap from in there.

you need a new PS3 im afraid. Or send it in for repair which cost around £130 from sony. It happened to me but mine was covered by warranty

Mine just freezes after turning it on within 2/3 mins. I turn it off and start it again and it freezes again, i start it again and then it works fine until the next time i turn it on???

It's like a little ritual i have to go through.

Its the old 40GB fat one. Bought pre-owned from Game and still wihtin the warrenty so I should be able to get it replaced if terminal, problem is there's still a disk in the drive that I'd like to be able to get out.

ETA: Good call on the fan test, it ejected the disk when it started it so all I'll loose now is the save games

your ps3 is terminal i am afraid. you may be able to get it working using the hair dryer trick or by reflowing the flux, which involves openning it up. Eventually it will happen again. suggest get a refund and get a ps3 slim, which were redesigned generally do not suffer from the these problems like the original ps3.

Top marks for Game, called the store I got it from, they didn't have any but checked with another store that did and swapped it for me.
