I looked into visiting that tank museum if I ever found myself in London or staying with friends in Surrey, but it's about 100 miles from Surrey in the middle of bum fk nowhere by the looks of it, so that's that out the window.

Anyway, just sold off my Grille, bought the Hummel and transferred the crew (who somehow, after earning probably 35,000xp in that tank) are still not ready to start learning skills. Hmmm. Anyway, I put a rammer on, camo next will come next as it's a big old box, and then it's just a case of saving up another 10,000xp to buy the real gun for this thing. First impressions, the turn speed is decent and traverse arc is much wider than the Grille, it feels like it aims a little faster too, but that might just be me. The 22 shell capacity in a bit of a bummer, I had a few busy matches in the Grille where I was close to running out. Obviously, this will be less of an issue when I buy the next gun, which has higher damage and longer reloads. In my first match out I picked up a Mastery Class 3, which I don't think is bad going.

It's well worth the trip, you dont need anything else around there smile

Go on an event day to make it worth while, tiger running day etc

It's not far from Dorchester, but bring a sat nav as it's really really badly signposted. The entrance ticket lasts a year if you're close enough to take advantage of it

I'm about 60 miles away from the place and I've been 5-6 times over the years.

I'm in Newcastle, so it's only 425 miles by road... frown

That said, I do intend to go to London again some time, so I might put it on the agenda. I'm not sure the mrs will be too enthused about walking around a military museum, not that that would stop me.

A good video from Quickybaby here, him doing his usual laconic commentary over the second highest damage from a single tank performance on the live servers. Not as amazing as the ultimate survivor JagdTiger video, but a great performance from the player nonetheless.

EDIT: Another game in the Hummel, still using the tier V 150mm gun from the Grille, 2000+ damage and another mastery class 2 against tier 8s. This thing can really hold it's own.

EDIT 2: 6 kills on El Halluf, fired all 22 shots and had to hide the match out, scooped a Top Gun. Not bad going for an arty!

It's been quite an insight playing low tier tanks again. Seems that after about 15-20 games in a tier 1 tank, you're almost constantly dumped into heavily tier 2 games.

So it's no wonder players never learn to get any better when they're constantly outclassed in tanks they seriously don't have a prayer in.

I'm trying to get the Ace Tanker in the tier 1 Japanese tank, but the last 15 or so games in a row have been tier 2. I don't mean an even spread either; Maybe 2-3 tier ones one each side. It's ridiculous.

Yep I went back to tier 1 to learn to play properly. Some say I never managed that. hehe

But completely agree. Still have my gnarly old edited MS-1 and agree almost never play it now. Virtually always a tier 2 game.

Having said that still have tier 2 PzII. One would expect to be chucked into a Tier 2/1 game now and again but nope.

I have strange games. Sometimes I can be top tank with top damage ( such as in the Tortoise today) and win or die badly and lose.

Biggest gap for me seems between tier 5 and 6. The tier 6 tanks just muller you.

Facing tier 6 tanks in a tier 4 is a real arse. It is great when you manage to bring one of them down though.

Tier 2 is all about dealing with the T18 American TD, which is really OP in the hands of a decent player. It's fast, turns on a sixpence, has 51mm of front armour and can one-shot many tier 2 tanks with its derp gun. No wonder it's the stat padder's vehicle of choice. I had a 63% win rate with mine before I sold it after 78 games & 182 kills.

Personally I preferred the British Universal Carrier 2-pdr and German Panzerjäger TDs anyway. They're utterly deadly and judicial use of gold ammo will ruin a T18's aura of invincibility, no problem.

Fook it. I've sold the Jap tier 1. After 16 tier 2 games in a row over several days, it is clearly not just a passing MM troll. I can't carry a game in a tier 1 tank under such circumstances and the win rate has fallen like a stone. Pity as it's not a bad tank really (great gun depression, OK armour and gun) and I had Ace Tankers in all the other Tier 1 tanks.

Popping off T18s are no problem for my Cruiser 3 with 2-pdr gun and one of the few tanks that can easily pen them from the front too. Can run rings round them all day long. What ruins me at those tiers are Panzer's with the auto-cannon gun, generally the Pz 2 and Pz 1C in tier 3 mm and Pz 1 and M2/T2 Light I think uses same gun. Full health to dead in about 5 seconds.

That's good to know; I got the Panzer 2 yesterday, sold the Loltraktor and swapped the crew over.

I free XP-ed the top gun and left the rest stock. I've only had one game with it so far and it looks good.

If I already own the telescopic binoculars is it worth getting the coated optics too or is it a case of get one or the other?

It depends on the vehicle really. Binocs only work on a stationary vehicle, whereas optics work all the time.

For vehicles that don't move much, like tank destroyers and passive scout tanks, having binocs is great.

For medium tanks and heavies, it's pretty pointless having binocs, but it is nice to have the extra view range from optics.

For higher tier light tanks I used both binocs and optics to give me the best of both worlds, but that's really the only time I would use them together.

If you didn't know, you can swap binocs & camo nets between tanks for free, so you only really need to buy one set of each.

Ah cheers, it's for the T25 AT. I pretty much live in that tank and have a fair amount to save for the T28 so will probably get the coated optics just for a little boost.

They're not cumulative though, so you don't get any extra boost from carrying both.

The T18 is a great tank in the right hands, used to play it regularly with decent winrate and not sure why I sold it.
In my tier 3 pz38 am regularly against 5 tier tanks and as long as I am cautious I do pretty well however it always costs a bomb as load premium otherwise I am shooting in vain, at the end of the game many times I am down 20k which is pretty hefty for a 3 tier.

It has quite a narrow gun arc, and is pretty mobile, so optics a good choice for it. I just got the T25AT this weekend and its a fun tank, can't wait to get to the 105mm top gun on it lick

Yeah with it fully upgraded it's great. It's engine is good enough that I end up being one of the tanks pushing the heavies around and yes the 105mm is great! So far the only thing it can't penetrate is tier IX frontal armour.

Fired up the old game the other night - splashed out on some Gold, blah, blah, - I'm fking st!

I'm getting one shotted left right and centre! T1 all the way up to T8.

Back in the day skins were all the rage - are they still or has everyone else just got better and I need to get my eye in?

Not sure about skins, though there are more large caliber guns around now, since the introduction of the second German TD line several patches back. Might just be a case of needing to get back into the swing of the game, not sure people have been getting much better of late. Maybe you were must unlucky with the matchmaking and RNG. Game loves to troll sometimessmile
