Just moved in to a new house and my new bedroom was fomerly a study. Anyway, had the Home Hub connected in to a telephone socket (with ADSL filter) for about a month. Said telephone socket is fed from another socket on a different wall, which is nearer to the Xbox. Tried to connect Home Hub in to closer socket, but can't get a broadband connection. Tried all sorts but can't understand it.

simple test - plug a phone into the socket and see if you get dial tone. No dial tone no broadband

Sorry, need to clear up. the phone socket which the hub works with is an extension from non working socket, and plugs in, so surely if i get broadband on the socket that works, and that is plugged in to the one that doesn't then the one that doesn't work should work. (Excuse me for I have lost the ability to give out my thoughts in a logical manner

That doesn't necessarily follow. Best thing to do as said is to plug a phone in and see if you get a tone! The wires may not be connected inside. The extension may also be badly wired and have too much intereference and therefor have problems connecting.

Correct.
To elaborate.
Unplug all ADSL filters and phones from BT sockets.
Plug phone into BT socket you want to have BB on.
If you do not get dial tone, then there is no way in hell you are going to get BB.

IF you get dial tone , make sure all phones have a filter on them and move BT hub and ADSL filter to new location and try.

ELSE get someone in

I have seen people not put filters on the phones and it does not work that well....rolleyes OR move just the BT hub to the new location and plug the phone back into the old location with no filter....
