I'm sure this is a very basic question but i'll ask non-the less.

Heading to Turkey on Monday for a week - taking the iphone 4, primarily to use as an ipod.

However I'd also like to continue to recieve texts and calls if needed.

But I don't want my email to be checking its self every ten minutes and I don't want to be hit with massive data romaing charges because I keep looking at Pistonheads.

So what settings do I need to change etc - I know I coudl just bung it in airplane mode for just using the ipod but I want to keep getting texts etc

it'll do it automatically as data roaming is turned off by default

Settings > General > Network

Turn off 3G, Cellular data and Data Roaming

Then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar

And change 'Fetch new data' to off

That should be the main ones in order to avoid data charges abroad.

There is also airplane mode - right at the top of settings. That turns everything off.

I was amazed at how expensive data roaming charges are when abroad, so do make sure you've turned them off!

Remember that it has wifi. So, if you can find a free wifi connection, then you can fill your boots with data.

You can also run it in airplane mode and then switch on wifi to avoid any accidental data usage
