Following on from my thread on the best way to strip and restore a wooden door, I decided to take the job on myself. It's actually been relatively enjoyable/satisfying so far, so much so I've decided to do the sill in the bay window as well.

All was going well until my trusty Bosch PSM palm sander packed up (motor burnt out, lots of smoke). Now the obvious thing to do is to go out and get another but there are two things stopping me:
1) they're quite expensive (£40+) for what they are.
2) the sanding pads are also quite pricey.

I nearly bought a £15 Silverline 90 mm sander from tool trader but they were out of stock. When I read a few reviews afterwards, some seem to suggest that it's pretty ineffective.

So just wondering should I go for another Bosch palm jobbie or is there a decent alternative, ideally using standard 90mm pads?

One last question, on the detailed mouldings on my door, is there anything I can get to sand into the tighter gaps? I've tried the dremel sanding wheel but it's way too big. Is this the sort of thing where sanding sponges work?

I've used a Bosch Multitool with the triangular sanding head. It's very good, but you have to be careful not to press too hard or for too long as you'll melt the plastic underneath.

This one?

Looks pretty good but I think at that price I'd probably opt for the Dewalt 90mm one. Probably don't need the multi tool capability.

That's the one, yes. It's a very useful 'get out of jail free' machine for DIYers!

Bought mine a few weeks ago for Aldi - £9.99. Works quite well I so far. Might find one in your local store if they haven't sold them all.
