I've just bought an Audi A4. It has built-in satnav but doesn't alert me to speed camera. I don't want to use my Tom Tom too for the benefit of speed cameras so am looking for a cheap but worthwhile detector. I've come across the Inforad K2 on Amazon which seems to be too good to be true.

Does anyone have any experience of this device?

I had the very first version which was quite basic but did the job.

Recommended @ £50 compared to the Road Angel at several times the price?

I'm looking for a bargain but don't want to waste my money if the device is no good...

I was happy with mind for what I paid for it (£70 I think in about 2004).

I have an Inforad K2. It works well and the PC interface is quite good for changing settings. The database is the Pocketgpsworld one which is known to be accurate.
I bought it because it's rechargeable and can be fixed with no cables. I have it on top of my rear view mirror. The battery seems to last 4 - 5 hours with no problems. However, because it's so small, I always forget to switch it off so it's always flat when I come back to the car. There's an in car charger but because there is no line of sight from the charger to the satellites, it doesn't work whilst charging.
Overall, I'd recommend it if you want an unobtrusive and cable free solution.

what about a Novus Piccolo, can be had for 59 notes, often seen at 49 notes has a voice, and free updates and a 2 year warranty. Halfords and Maplin have them

Reviving this thread because I have also got a built-in satnav with no camera alerts. I've bought a K2 and initial experience suggests it's very good. No idea of the battery life yet but it re-charges quickly so leaving it in the socket while away from the car is an option. With a lead I assume it could be run whilst on charge anyway.

I have just read on the Pocketgpsworld forum that Inforad have not renewed their licence to use the PGPS database. What they will do now is not yet known.

Interesting.

Have they got another source, engineering their own, or just using old PGPS data?

2 years on - is the feedback just as positive for the K2?

On motorways it's not a lot of good because it goes off apparently due to nearby 'B' roads. On non-motorways it is better but I get the feeling that the Inforad database is not as good as the PocketGPS one they used to use. If I'm going off my normal familiar routes, I will take it, but around my home area I don't bother.

I need to replace my trusty 'Pogo'. It's been great but now has a fault.

I considered the RoadAngel but to me it looks like a throwback to a 1970's Datsun.

I would like fixed cameras, laser detector and SPECS warnings. Any ideas?

I'd go Inforad, cheap and if you learn the different flashing lights it tells you most of what you need to know. I've got one sat on my dash and its helped me a load of times. Never AFAIA had problems of false readings on motorways either.
Looks and is as cheap as chips, so nobody wants to nick it so I leave it there. Best speed 'warner' I have used.

Road Angel Gem+, as they didn't have any Pogos to replace it with. You may be able to carry on your subscription too, mine seems to have carried across. The Gem+ isn't actually as bad as I was expecting.

I just downloaded 'CamerAlert' on my IPhone which connects to the car thru Bluetooth. Initial thoughts are that it seems to give too many warnings which is irritating and I can't find a way to change the settings.

Anybody else here using CamerAlert?

Hi. I have 'Camera Alert' and there is an option in settings/advanced settings to alter the direction difference.
This changes how reactive the alerts are to other roads, etc.
Works great for me and I even got a lifetime subscription for notifying them of a new camera that I noticed in France a while back.
