The other night, after a couple of bottles of champagne and a nice meal in great company, I may have indulged in an expressive 'high five' while wearing my Omega Seamaster Chrono. It clearly didn't like the shock, and for a few seconds after it wobbled violently on my wrist like it was trying to get off!

It appears to be telling the time correctly, I can feel it self winding exactly as it did beforehand, there are no apparent ill-effects at all.

Should I be concerned?

(FWIW I'm a complete watch newbie, bought the Omega on a whim because I loved the look of it and fancied treating myself, and know pretty much zero about how watch internals function)

Hi there,

If the watch is keeping good time she should be fine also a high five isn't likely to damage the watch unless you were high fiving a brick wall or a Cyborg terminator!

As previously said, a high-five won't do any lasting damage ... However I wouldn't suggest playing a few games of squash with a mechanical watch on your wrist! As long as it keeps good time, you're okay smile

Thanks guys.

So - in laymans terms - what made it wobble from side to side so hard? It was literally for several seconds, like it was possessed!

Nice idea, but no - this thing was violently shaking from side to side by a good 5mm either way.

Out of ideas, that sounds absolutely bizarre.

It was almost certainly the auto winding rotor wobbling.

Do I need to get it checked?

The Seamaster chrono has the Valjoux 7750 auto-chrono movement, which can show a little gyroscopic effect when the rotor is spinning quickly. It's also as tough as old boots, if it's working OK I doubt you've done any harm.

The Valjoux 7750 chronos are pretty well made and can easily be serviced for around £150 tops.
