I have an old tamiya rc car with decent electric motor and electronic speed controller, and the 2 channel radio gear and servos.

Is it possible to reuse these electrics to create a 2ch plane? Where can i buy a plane? Ideally, I would like to spend as little as possible, as it would just be for occasional fun in a nearby field.

Thanks

No. Not enough channels. You need 3 channels minimum to move in 3 dimensions.
Wrong frequency. You're not allowed fly using ground frequencies, and vice versa.
Not enough range.

You really need 3 channels: One for speed control, one for elevator and the other for rudder or ailerons.

The motor would probably be fine, but ideally you don't want a reverse on the throttle!

Servos would be OK, indeed I used my old 2 channel Acoms gear for my glider for several years.

The price of entry level radio gear so low these days, it's hardly worth trying to use a car setup, unless for a 2 channel glider IMO.

If the Tx/Rx is 27MHz (ie colour-coded frquency) then you can use it for air *or* ground models.

Range probably won't be an issue - I used a 1980's 27MHz Acoms set for years on a slope soarer and never had any range issues.

Ok thanks. I am suprised at the prices for radio gear and batteries they seem no more expensive than 10 years ago.

So I would be looking for 3 ch radio gear and plane, but reuse my motor. Or would it be simpler just to start from scratch and buy rtf? Any recommendations? Ideally the plane would be fairly small and compact and easy to fly (if the two are possible together) and under £100. I have had a look at the online shops and am a bit confused by the materials used, plus prices vary wildly. i guess that is to be expected, but at what price point do you get something usable. Cheers.

Go to www.flyingwings.co.uk

look at the mini v

it will teach you to fly in no time, yet can still do loops etc

approach rob- the owner about the complete kit, with planet 2.4 ghz transmitter and receiver

then you have the ideal kit to learn with, a good radio setup, and it's all reusable fir other models when you get the hang of it!

Or look at kyosho minium range- they can be had for 60 odd quid if you shop around and if you get a rudder/elevator model you will be fine

Good idea although I have never flown at a club.

Parkzone stuff is good but dear- look at fms models range of second world war stuff.

Not for a novice though
